HELP - Jailbreak & Unlock iPhone (2G) for firmware 2.1 using QuickPwn (Windows)

I've been using the below guide and refering to iClarified to unlock my 2g iPhone:

Complete Guide: Jailbreak & Unlock iPhone for firmware 2.1 using QuickPwn (For Windows) | Simon Blog

But now Im stuck, can anyone help?

I’ve followed the steps up to number 8, BUT QuickPwn wont detect my 2g iPhone. The blue arrow is greyed out…….HELP????

The phone has been updated from 1.1.4 to 2.1 using the custom firmware. Phone now shows the emergency call screen and iTunes says that the sim is not compatible. I wish I’d never bothered updating - can anyone help????

Re: HELP - Jailbreak & Unlock iPhone for firmware 2.1 using QuickPwn (For Windows)

No idea mate, seems like its falling at the first hurdle. I used wquickpwn a couple of times with no problems at all. I didnt use the custom firmware as it was a pain in the arse and wouldnt work so i just updated using the apple firmware from itunes then carried on with quickpwn, just use the custom firmware you already have installed for section 9. Worth a try i guess

Re: HELP - Jailbreak & Unlock iPhone for firmware 2.1 using QuickPwn (For Windows)

Can you please confirm a few things. My iPhone was originally unlocked using iLiberty and has been running on 1.1.4 for ages, with an Orange simcard. I decided to take the plunge and update to 2.1 at the weekend and updated iTunes first to 8.0.

I then plugged the phone in, synched it with iTunes and then hit shift and restore, using the downloaded custom firmware. I left the Orange sim in the phone. The firmware appeared to update OK, but I now have the 'emergency call screen' and iTunes says that the sim is not compatible.

From reading several guides it would appear that is OK, as QuickPwn will unlock and jailbreak the phone.

BUT........when I open QuickPwn what first page should I see? The detect phone screen or something else?
Even without the phone connected should the arrow be blue?
Is the problem being caused by the firmware that I downloaded and selected via shift restore, or is my sim causing a problem.

2 days without my iPhone is driving me nuts !!!! Many thanks for any help.

I would try putting an 02 sim in as once restored the phone is locked to 02 again until you complete the jailbreak/unlock.

Do you use the official 2.1 firmware from iTunes or download a custom version?

Re: HELP - Jailbreak & Unlock iPhone for firmware 2.1 using QuickPwn (For Windows)

When i got my phone i just updated it to 2.1 with itunes and then used winpwn it still asked for the custom firmware but i just bypassed that step as the phone already had 2.1 on it.

Re: HELP - Jailbreak & Unlock iPhone for firmware 2.1 using QuickPwn (For Windows)

I had exactly the same as you when i upgraded to 2.1, I had 1.1.4 but on vodafone which was unlocked on iliberty and then reunlocked with quickpwn. Putting a o2 sim in wont make any difference because you want to use an orange sim so whether it works with o2 is rather immaterial. Just use the official apple software and continue using that guide. Also try using a different USB port, my iphone is a bit picky about some USB ports.

Re: HELP - Jailbreak & Unlock iPhone for firmware 2.1 using QuickPwn (For Windows)

I tried to use that same guide last night and ended up with a phone displaying a constant pineapple. All went well untill the final reboot, the phone
would try and restart every few minutes but nothing else.
was wondering if the 2.1 firm/w that you download from the link in that guide was any different from apple's own. I skipped the update firm/w part as I already had 2.1 on the phone.
It said the update had been successefull, and would restart the phone, but it didnt make it any further than that.

Might try again tonight with the downloaded firm/w from the giude.

I must say its a little worrying when you can't do anything but turn the phone on and off and to top that off itunes wouldn't recognise it either, until I rebooted the computer.

I was having all sorts of problems with QuickPwn - but managed to do the whole process very easily last night. What I would suggest is to put the phone into DFU restore, open iTunes and restore the firmware to the official 2.1. Check here [FW 2.x](2G&3G) DFU and recovery mode (getting in and out of) - Hackint0sh
on how to get into DFU mode.

Using the following tutorial: iClarified - iPhone - How to Unlock/Jailbreak Your 2.1 2G iPhone Using QuickPwn (Windows)
start from step 3 and make sure that you follow all the onscreen prompts. Do not disconnect the phone or dislodge the usb cable. Everything should work fine.

If you synced your phone to iTunes, before attempting the QuickPwn process iTunes will popup a dialog offering to "restore data from a backup". You can then restore your contacts, text etc....
Some issues have been found though using this process with phones previously on 1.1.4. See how it goes.............good luck.

Re: HELP - Jailbreak & Unlock iPhone for firmware 2.1 using QuickPwn (For Windows)

Nope, tried it again last night, three or four times. Same result. All seems to go well untill the phone ahs to reboot with the new setup and it hangs on the boot screen. ( pineaaple or apple tried with new bootlog and without ).

I watched a video on youtube and it all when exactly the same way, except his phone rebooted at the end and mine doesn't. I'm begining to think it might be some other software on my computer interferring possibly

Any thoughts people?

Uninstall all your apps off your phone.

I assume your phone has never been unlocked or jailbroken before?

Re: HELP - Jailbreak & Unlock iPhone for firmware 2.1 using QuickPwn (For Windows)

No Hutch, it hasn't been jailbroken before.
I would assume though that if its using the 2.1 firm/w to prepare the phone, before jailbraking that all the apps would be removed anyway......Is that not the case?

I'll give your suggestion a try tonight though, thanks
