The Cydia/ICY Applications Thread

16th July 2009 [post 3.0 FW update]

THIS IS THE MOST COMPREHENSIVE CYDIA LIST AND REP LIST I HAVE FOUND TO DATE

Cydia is an App which is downloaded on Jailbroken [JB] iPhones by Quickpwn or WinPwn. It allows an iPhone user to access repositories (hosted App databases) to download non-Apple endosed products. You'll find if you want your phone to do something which isn't available in the App Store - you'll find it in Cydia.

ICY is a Cydia rival from the Installer team. It is a self-proclaimed stream-lined version with quicker startup times and smoother downloads. If you don't have it just follow THESE INSTRUCTIONS

Cydia Store:
This is a AppStore replica for JB iPhones. Setup and maintained by Saurik (Cydia creator) it allows developers to sell their Apps with an easier pricing/purchase procedure. It accepts payment via Paypal and Amzon payments. At present the number of Apps is small while its expansion is in the early stages.

PkgBackUp $1.99 - Commercial App to Backup your Cydia Apps on your iPhone.
NES 3 $5.99 - 3.0 ready/landscape supporting NES emulator for iPhone (NO GAMES/ROMS here though)
iSmartDialer $7.99 - Adds Search, Speed Dial, Auto-Complete, SMS & Email from the Dialer. Free 10 Day trial
SwirlyMMS v2 $12.00/$6.00 (upgrade) - the answer to MMS technology for 2G users.
Vibrus3G $2.00 - Adds vibrate settings to your keyboard and dialer
HapticPro $2.99 - Allows keyboard button customization
iWipe $2.99 - A more secure and permanent removal of data from your iPhone
Voicemail Forwarder $2.49 - Forward voicemail to email
Cyntact $1.00 - Have your contact photos appear in your contacts roll.

Featured Packages

A summary of those featured on the Cydia Home page:
biteSMS - Still the best alternative to the Apple Messaging version (I know i am biased!)
Cycorder - Video recorder for iPhone
Cylay - iPhone tracking for lost/stolen phones
iBirthdays -
iBlacklist - Call and SMS selector/blocker
iRealSMS - Alternative SMS app which supports landscape typing
mAdvLock - Phone/App locking software to scure your phone
MCleaner - Blocks unwanted calls and SMS
MiVTones - Gives the ability to have Video Clips as ringtones (requires purchase for full features)
Modem - Tethering for your iPhone "in just 10 seconds"
qTweeter
RemindYou
Snapture - An excellent Camera App to improve the features of the standard camera
SpoofApp
ToneFXs - Change ANY tone ringtone/text/email on the phone
123SPOOF - Change your CallerID

MORE FEATURED STUFF - BUT ALL FREE

BossPrefs > More Control
Categories > Orgainse your Icons
CyCorder > Already covered that
dTunes > Free iTunes
MobileFinder > Browse Files
MxTube > Download YouTube Videos
Searcher > Find Anything

Recommended Cydia Downloads:
Just my suggestions (taken from experience and other peoples opinions)

1. Winterboard - customize your phone background, icons, battery, unlock swipe - go download a theme.
2. SB Settings - puts common toggles onto your springboard. Easily re-spring or turn on/off 3G, Wifi, etc
3. Ultrasn0w - softunlock application for the iPhone 3.0 [use Yellowsn0w for pre 3.0 FW]
4. PDANet - tether your phone to any Wifi enabled or USB device [thanks Jase]
5. Categories - Puts your Apps into tidy little folders - very de-cluttered and Zen-like

I'll add some more info as and when i get time folks.

Re: The Cydia/Installer App Store Thread

Good idea this, is there an app that allows us Brits to have a 12 hour clock without having to choose a different locale?

Re: The Cydia/Installer Applications Thread

Here are some of my recommendations.

Cydia

Repositories
iClarified

Games
gpSPhone - Gameboy Advance emulator
Macman - Great Pacman clone with a few twists
NES - Nintendo emulator

iClarified
Disable Auto-Correction - I dont use but I know some people like it
Pysl - Again not one I use but its useful if you are being naughty and want to hide SMS's or Calls

Intelliborn
Intelliscreen - Mod for viewing emails, SMS, etc from the lock screen some people hate it and others cant live without it (I personally hate it)

Multimedia
Cycorder - Amazing free iPhone video recorder
Modplayer - Media player which supports loads of formats

Networking
OpenSSH - A must for access to the iPhone filesystem

System
Boss Tool - Make free space on your iPhone, invaluable
Winterboard - The must-have app for your iPhone allows you to apply personalised themes to your phone

Utilities
BossPrefs - App for turning certain things on and off (allows you to toggle wifi, bluetooth, etc)
Customize - Change the look and feel of every part of your iPhone
Flashlight - Useful for aiding in the opening of my front door after a night out drinking too much beer
MakeItMine - Change your carrier name to whatever you want
Poof - Hide Icons you dont want to see
Snapture - An improved camera including digital zoom

Installer

Sources
Community Sources

Beta
Kate - Formerly known as Catterpillar, a collection of tools to change your iPhone

Not much else on installer im bothered about at the moment and its still way too buggy for me to use over Cydia.

I tried to install this and set it up but it said it required a subscription. Wasn't sure i wanted to pay for it and then i couldn't get any of the info to work correctly.

I am sure it's my error but i've managed to get other stuff setup without any hitches at all.

Categories has just appeared on Cydia. Enables you to put your icons into folders

Those "anally retentive" types (like myself) can now really tidy that desktop

Re: The Cydia/Installer Applications Thread

Love my Iphone - it does just what I want out of a phone but just wandered if there where any tweaks and downloads out there to make it even better ?

Is there just one (or two programs) which would tweak it and allow me to get even more from the phone ?

Re: The Cydia/Installer Applications Thread

Not sure if this thread is the right place for this but when I install some of the apps, my phone keypad doesn't work and the phone reverts back to the home screen? Anyone had this?

I installed Snapture, Winterboard, NES Emu, Cycorder and Boss Prefs.

I restored, re pwnaged and the same happened again?

Again, apologies if this is the wrong place.

Re: The Cydia/Installer Applications Thread

It could be 5 icons on the dock, or it could be a buggy heap of mess. It appears to work though.

Re: The Cydia/Installer Applications Thread

What would you like to know? It literally backs up your Cydia sources and Applications to a part of the iPhone which is backed up by iTunes.

Apparently all you do is sync with iTunes then Upgrade and sync your backup and then when you install AptBackup from Cydia you can restore all your Sources and Apps as they were.

Im just trying it now so will report on whether it works, hope it does this is my big bugbear of jailbreaking having to reinstall everything every time I upgrade!

EDIT: well I would be trying if my backup wasnt taking 85 years to complete.....

FURTHER EDIT: Had loads of fun with my update to 2.1 today, the update went fine but when I restored my last backup got the endless reboot loop. Tried it a few times over and over with the same outcome so have ended up restoring a backup from 3 weeks ago which seems to have worked atlhough ive lost SMS's from the past few weeks and of course the backup of my Cydia apps so sorry I cant confirm if it works or not.

Just incase anyone else is struggling to find 5 icon dock on Cydia, its actually called Five icon dock. Have spent ages looking for a way to get Cydia to reload the latest list of packages of something! Must be all the beer I had last night

After doing this I right-clicked on my iPhone in iTunes and selected restore from backup and my latest backup worked

Just restoring my Cydia apps now which has taken about 3/4 mins and, yep, works perfectly

Re: The Cydia/Installer Applications Thread

I installed the 'Docs' app last night with the hope to view PDF's on my iphone.

I SSH'd some PDF magazines across but everytime i try and open them the phone crashes.

Any ideas what im doing wrong.

Is there a certain place i should have moved them to ??, I just created a folder for them.

Re: The Cydia/Installer Applications Thread

Now that i've upgraded to 2.1 and pwned the beast, i'll give aptbackup a blast.

Also found Un-unlockable which "hides" the slide to unlock slider. Two reasons i like it:
1. it'll mean anyone who doesn't have an iphone or know how to use one will find it impossible to get into it...
2. it'll confuse the hell out of people who do

After the download it goes to winterboard, there is no icon for this app. I unlock out of instinct now anyway, another point is that you can see the whole wallpaper image (picky aren't i!)
