I have no idea about any of this stuff so could someone answer me a few basic questions:

I've won an American iPhone 3G, is it possible for me to use it in this country? If so how?

Thanks.

What's the best way to unlock an iPhone 3G 3.1.3? It's been JB before but not unlocked. Baseband is 05.12.01 I think.

ideally unlock and upgrade firmware as the 3.1.3 is slow!

If you stay at 3.1.3 use spirit jailbreak
If you update to 4.1 use redsnow

There's no unlock available for 4.1 tho

Better off staying on 3.1.3 if you need the unlock

Thanks!

Definitely need the unlock as it's going from O2 to Orange. Could I go from 3.1.3 to 4.0 and have it unlocked?

Is the iPhone 3G lock to Orange? If so, check whether Orange can unlock it with a fee

I think only Orange can officially unlock it.

I think they charge £15/£20.

To Unlock with Orange, you need to call Orange on 150 if it was a contract iPhone or 450 for pay as you go iPhone

cool thanks all she's gonna take a trip to orange shop in notts and get it official unlocked £20 is more than acceptable as the phone was cheap and always looked after (her son's ex contract phone) so worth spending a few buck on

Has anyone had success with a 3G on 4.2.1? I have tried greenpoison (I just keep getting the message Try Again) and Redsnow (crashes repeatedly). Is there any other reliable means?

Ah - I have just been trying to jailbreak an iphone 3g using the 4.2.1 software gollowing the JB thread on this forum - ie using blackra1n
Nothing seems to happen - i just have the screen showing the usb to itunes picture and not the photo of Geohot.
I guess thats because its a 3g on the latest software.

In which case how do I downgrade to os 3 so I can JB my 3g - apart from JB its painfully slow on 4.2.1 anyway

Is there any way to go back to version 3?

Thanks

orange problem...

Hi...
i cant find an appropriate area for my question so hopefully a new thread is in order.

I've an unlocked 3G with ultrasnow and its ok for several networks but will not recognise orange or Tesco?
The carrier settings advise all networks are available - including Orange and Tesco but when selected they don't connect.
The phone was initially 4.1 bb 05.15.04 and has been updated to 4.2.1 on Ipad bb 06.15...

Any help would be GREATLY appreciated as im going scatty
