One i always need is :

Notifier (needs "status notifier fix" installed aswell for ios 4)- Places an icon in the right of your status bar when you have a text, email, missed call etc. Means you dont need to unlock your screen to see if you have missed anything.
Its so useful.

ouch!

My3G - Makes apps think they are on Wifi instead of 3G. $3.99 (works with 4.1, sorry I'm late with this)

infiniboard - scroll the Homescreen pages vertically. $1.99

Syncronicity - Allows phone use whilst syncing with iTunes. $2.00

NoSpot - blocks the Spotlight search page beside the Homescreen.

sorry, must have missed the e-mail notice for this Q.

In answer; yes it works with iPlayer via the "raining lemons" web portal. don't think there is a BBC iPlayer app available for iPhone yet though.

iControl - manage the usage of your WiFi, 3G, Bluetooth, and 2G radios to maximize the battery life, allows you to set App-Specific rules on switching off. $4.99

UPDATE - Well that's the blurb. Unfortunately it's ability to 'white list' apps seems br0ken so it kills MyWi when the iPhone locks. Save your money peeps!

Is this heavy on the battery/free memory? have tried a couple of great status bar apps but they have all zapped the battery.

"KeepAwake" doesn't work with iOS 4.x ...I found another app called "PreventSleep" that does exactly the same thing, adds a toggle to SBSettings...it's free as well, and I can confirm it works with 4.1
(Don't know about 4.2, haven't updated yet, sorry)

iProtect
Like locktopus but miles better as you get a keypad instead of a keyboard!

Two more useful apps to add to the list, both for iPod Touch 4G users:

HDRenabler enables HDR photography on iPod Touch 4G camera just like the iPhone 4, adding a little HDR toggle at the top of the camera app. Free as well

HD Photographer, by the same developer, increases the resolution of photos taken with the camera (again on Touch 4G) from 0.7MP (960x720) to 1MP (1280x720), which is the res at which videos are taken, but for some reason Apple decided to cap stills at 0.7MP. This tweak costs $0.99

Another Useful Cydia App call "CallLock" for people with Proximity Sensor Issue.

You can set it to automatically lock the iPhone 4 during calls

Action Menu - adds useful functions to the copy/paste menu that pops up when you hold your finger down on text, including the invaluable ability to define a list of favourite items to quickly paste (e.g. your email address!)

OpenNotifier - like Notifier before it, adds icons to your status bar to notify you of missed calls, texts, emails etc... but with the added bonus that it can be set to alert you for ANY app that supports push :D

iGotYa: will allow you to take a picture of your thiefs face (if you have front face camera) when the unlock code is entered wrong and email it to an account of your choice, it also gets the location where your iPhone is.

€4.99 (£4.26 when I paid the other day).

I tried that the other day ( free trial )
Worked well taking pics and emailing them

But my nephew kept getting into my phone by entering any password
Is this a fault or is it the way this works?

apparently that's how it's meant to work! that way the thief thinks he's home free and doesn't switch the phone off or format it straight away - which would wipe out the tracking program ...but it does leave your data a little exposed in the meantime, which seems to defeat the purpose of security.

There's another program that prevents switching off and access to your files, it also takes pictures! I think it's subscription based though and isn't cheap - I'll post back when I remember the name.

There is an option under settings > igotya to hide the personal data when the incorrect code is entered, it hides (so the user can't see) all emails, contacts, messages etc.. although I found it difficult to get it back into normal mode again and can't remember how i did it so I turned that feature off!

Another tweak that is quite good is Barrel, it is a paid app from Cydia, Barrel lets you change the way the screens move, instead of sliding the icons across the page, you can have cube inside and out, Page slide down and up, Curl and roll away or vertical scrolling and page fade, nice little tweak done through the setting page. I think its 1.99. Makes the way you move your screens different!

Fakeclockup is great, thank you, although I had to slow it down to "only" 1.6x to make TV Tube Sleep ($0.99) display properly. BTW, if anyone's considering getting TV Tube Sleep, I wouldn't get it yet as it stops working after a while. Hopefully there's a fix in the pipeline.

Also, I'm having a problem adding the source http://sendowski.de/iphone/ to add asVibra2. I get the following message

Did not Find Repository
The indicated repository could not be found. This could be because you are trying to add a legacy Installer repository (these are not supported). Also, this interface is only capable of working with exact repository URLs. If you host a repository and are having issues please contact the author of Cydia with any questions you have.

I've tried reinstalling Cydia via limera1n but it didn't solve the problem. Any suggestions?

Hmm....this is now a 404...anyone else know of an updated repo? I'll remove it in the next week if its dead!

Silly question, but do you pay through a credit card? How does it work? Do you have to set up a card even if you get apps that are free?
