how do I change from 3.0.1 to 2.2.1?

Hi all,

I have a 2G unlocked phone on Orange UK.

I've just 'upgraded' to 3.0.1 but the battery runs out in less than 1 day and incoming calls keep going to voicemail.

How can I change back to 2.2.1 or other '2' software?

cheers

Have you tried upgrading to 3.1.2? If it has been officially unlocked then it will remain so after the OS update, if not you should be able to jailbreak and unlock it again easily enough using redsn0w or blackra1n.

As it's an iPhone 2G, unlocking it is a piece of cake, you shouldn't ever have to worry about losing your unlock.

And I agree, going back to 2.x firmware would be... an odd choice. Go to 3.1.2.

Thx guys.

I have had a lot of friends with the latest iphone that have had problems with it going straight to answer machine even while in service. I never had this problem until I upgraded so I thought it might have been the OS.

Also, the battery life has gone down to about 25% since the upgrade, it doesn't make much sense to me, but I don't know what else to do.

It's not 'officially' unlocked, I did it with redsn0w.

Will I be able to upgrade to 3.1.2?

Has anyone else had these problems with battery life and calls not getting through?

Lots of people had issues with 3.0.1, it was a pretty buggy release.

Honestly, just go to 3.1.2. Even if it doesn't fix your problem, you've lost nothing; whereas going backwards to 2.x, you'd be losing a hell of a lot of functionality.

Ok, thanks guys.

Looking at that sticky I can only see a guide to unlock a 2G on a mac.

I'm running windows, will I have to wait till pwnage tool or similar comes out for it before upgrading to 3.1.2?

If so, can I downgrade to 2.2.1 in the mean time?

The phone is unusable as it stands.

Cheers

It's a 2G, you'll always be able to unlock it, regardless of the jailbreak method. It *should* just be done as part of the jailbreak procedure.

Thanks for that link Jerry, good to know I can go back.

Pistol, I will certainly try 3.1.2 first if I can. Sorry if I'm being dense but which jailbreak process should I follow? is it this one? simply jailbreak using blackrain?

Sorry guys, I'm still stuck with this unusable phone.

Could someone tell me if I just upgrade from 3.0.1 to 3.1.2 with itunes and I won't need to re-unlock, or post a link to a guide to get my phone to 3.1.2?

Cheers

You'll have to upgrade to 3.1.3 now as Apple are no longer validating installs of 3.1.2 (unless you have your hash on file with Cydia and make the required changes to your host file).

Good news is that as you have a 2G handset you can still jailbreak and unlock with 3.1.3 using redsn0w - further information at the dev-team blog.

ok Thanks,

So I'll try upgrading to 3.1.3.

But I can't find a guide, all the ones I've found are either 3G or 3.1.2.

Can anyone post a link to a guide for my situation:

Updating a 2G unlocked phone on 3.0.1 to 3.1.3?

Or tell me a guide that will work even though it is for 3.1.2 or whatever.

Thanks

ok! thanks guys. I'm up and running with 3.1.3 now.

Let's just hope it corrects the battery and missed call problems I was having.

Thankyou very much for all your help.
