Quickest way to update unlocked/JB 2G iPhone

I've got a 2G iPhone which is unlocked/JB and on 2.2.1, I use it on Vodafone. What is the quickest way to upgrade f/w to 3.1.2? If done searching but everything I see seems to base it on unlocking for the first time so starts from scratch. Is there a quick way to do it as the phone is already JB/unlocked? or does it have to be restored to official f/w first.

Re: Quickest way to update unlocked/JB 2G iPhone

It'll need to be upgraded to stock first, which is a good idea if you consider that much of the jailbreak apps will be configured from a 2.0 perspective. You could use pkgbackup to backup a list of what you've got then it will install what's compatible with 3.0 after jailreaking and installing pkgbackup again.

Re: Quickest way to update unlocked/JB 2G iPhone

wooosh...straight over my head mate I'm a novice when it comes to these things. I dont really use my iPhone for anything other than as a phone and in the car for music as ipod so dont have anything I'm fussed about losing.

So if I use Itunes to update the phone to latest f/w then use something to JB/unlock? Would there be a point in the process where I would have to have an 02 sim in the phone, cos I dont have one.

I'd rather pay someone to do this if anyone local wants a little earner

Re: Quickest way to update unlocked/JB 2G iPhone

The Dev team tool pwnage 3.1.4 will upgrade, jailbreak and unlock a 2G model if it is already jailbroken.

You need access to a Mac to create a custom version of the firmware from the official firmware or download a customised version from somewhere safe. Upgrade is just using the restore option (hold shift) and selecting the custom firmware.

On the plus side the 2G can be unlocked despite what apple do to the firmware as the dev unlock is based on the hardware settings which won't change.

I've not used or jailbreak/unlock a 2G I just read the notes on the Dev team blog as they are in the notes for us 3G users.

Re: Quickest way to update unlocked/JB 2G iPhone

Have you ever upgraded the firmware on an iphone?

If we can find a place to download the custom firmware for you then all you'd need to do is hold the shift key and click on the restore button and select the file you downloaded.

Itunes will do the rest.

Re: Quickest way to update unlocked/JB 2G iPhone

I've always been happy to pay other people to do these things mate I sort of did one with a mate when the 'hacks' first appeared but didn't really pay much attention.

I could manage pressing a button mate
