Please correct me if I'm wrong. Thanks! |

I can confirm that my 3GS and my girlfriends 3G were originally purchased from O2 meaning both fully locked to O2.
Last week while upgrading from 3.0/3.1 to 3.2.1 I left both Orange sim cards in both iPhones with the assumption that I’ll unlock with Blackra1n anyway.
I restored and connected to iTunes and noticed the 3G was showing “Activated” without yet running Blackra1n at all. Then iTunes downloaded a carrier update for Orange UK and worked as normal.
Tested the exact same procedure on my 3GS and again it did the exact same.
As a result we are both locked to Orange and O2. I have done some more testing and it appears that we can now use Orange UK and O2.
When I put an O2 sim card in, I have to connect to iTunes if that sim card hasn’t been used in the phone previously. It will then activate and work as normal. When I then put my Orange sim card back in, it just work without the need for iTunes and the same for that O2 sim card.
