Question Picking up 3Gs today - need filling in on new info

alright, basically i have been on the iphone scene since day one.. had a 2g when they got released, got a 3g when they got release... anyway a couple of months ago i broke my 3G and have only just got round to getting my 3Gs..

every previous iPhone i had i jailbroke etc etc

Has a lot changed over the past few months?

i am planning on opening it up when i get home.. restoring to 3.1.2 and then using blackrain to do the magic.... is that all i need to do?

i think i read somewhere about using cydia to 'make my life easier' is that a must, and can i do it on 3.1.2? also do i need the latest version of itunes?

I am fairly clued up on iPhones etc... just need pdating on the last few months i;ve missed lol.

Thanks in advance

If you're iPhone is one of the latest ones with the newest bootrom then you have to make sure you don't allow it to power down. If it requires reset then you need to connect it to a computer to turn it on again.

It is very important that if you want to maintain you JB with future firmware updates that you click make my life easier on the cydia homescreen. Apple are really cracking down

4th and 5th digits of serial need to be 37 or lower to be sure. Some up to week 40 reported fine too.

so this has nothing to do with upgrading to 3.1.2, the bootrom is based on when the phone was built?
Cheers

Yes. The only 100% uncrackable stuff is the later revisions of the 3GS hardware and the 3rd generation iPod touches. Older 3GSs and all other iPods and iPhones are now fully comprimised
