No longer jailbreaked :(

So I was happily jailbreaked via quickpwn for mac on my 3gs running 3.1.2 I applied blacksn0w carrier unlock and had wifi troubles. Followed geohot's advice on Twitter and reset my network settings.

Followed this was my iPhone stuck on the apple logo. After 30 mins I decided I was screwed and the only option left was a restore and hence I am now no longer jailbreaked!!

Now I am missing a few usefull features such as sbsettings was not fussed about the unlock screen in the end and am not too fussed with customisation.

I would like 3gunrestrictor what with the usefull sky app out today so am tempted to jailbreak again.

I do have my doubts about blackra1n as it is so darn quick!! Are my doubts unfounded?

It seems to me the way quickpwn works in creating a new custom firmware is a pretty solid process. But blackra1n seems to patch the os and I'm not sure I like it.

What are your guys thoughts? I'm not sure I can deal with the quickpwn route as it was quite a procedure that I can only do at work and we are too busy now.

Look forward to your thoughts.

Re: No longer jailbreaked :(

As far as I understand it QuickPwn only patches the firmware to remove the baseband upgrade.

At the time QuickPwn was released the new baseband which is bundled in with apples 3.1.2 couldn't be unlocked. If you upgraded to the official apple version of 3.1.2 your baseband would also be upgraded and you would loose your unlock ability.

I suspect both jailbreaks use the same method, it's just that BlackRa1n has the ability to run BlackSn0w which of course is the unlock for the new baseband. To unlock the baseband with BlackSn0w you need to be on the latest baseband version - so you don't want to patch apples firmware.

Have you tried BlackRa1n since you restored the firmware - you don't need to unlock. Just select Cydia when you run the BlackRa1n app on your phone - leave BlackSn0w unselected and you should have a Jailbroken phone which is still locked.
