To be honest, I saw this coming.

It baffles me at how security conscious people are about most things, being firewalled and anti-virused up to the hilt, yet SSH comes with a default password that most people don't change.

Sure, most people don't jailbreak. But if you know someone who did, and installed SSH, you could just sit next to them on a Wifi network and download all their files! Scary!

I wasn't aware how to change the password so after using SSH yesterday first thing I did was to take it off to make sure I didn't leave my phone exposed. Just seemed to obvious that anyone could access my phone and mess it up so until I learned how to change the password no way was I leaving SSH on!

quick question and i know it is probably dumb, i am jailbroken and unlocked, how do i know if i have SSH and whether it is on or off?

I'm not 100% sure but I think you need to have installed OpenSSH in order for someone to connect, go into Cydia and see whether you have it installed.

Best thing to do is change your password just in case.

Just tried what was said in the opening post about changing password and the password has definitely changed as alpine no longer works when I try to change it again however I can still get into my root drive with the alpine password via WinsCP. Anyone know what I'm doing wrong?

Seems like there are two passwords that need to be changed, the above changes the root one and now works fine.
