I always turn SSH off with SB settings when i'm not using it, in fact I barely ever use it these days so I may just take it off all together.

Re: A Worm, Rick Astley and possible problem..

To answer the inevitable before it gets asked

How to change SSH password

I've had SSH on when I've been tinkering with LockInfo. I swear I switched it off in SBSettings before respringing - I'm like that, but I've noticed on occasions that it was ON when I rechecked after a respring. So SBSettings people - just have a quick check even if you think you switched it off last time.

Re: A Worm, Rick Astley and possible problem..

Yeah. It stays on after reboots as its actually quite useful - you can use it to rescue a knackered iPhone without a restore by removing/reinstalling apps for example and rebooting it - or to get info off before a wipe.

It doesn't use any extra battery when left on either (that's taken care of by the wifi it uses instead...)

So nothing wrong with leaving it on, but do change the password.

I've changed root's pw, but am a bit cautious about changing the "mobile" account's password. Can anyone confirm if doing the latter stops any apps from working that may use its permissions?

Re: A Worm, Rick Astley and possible problem..

The first virus to infect the Apple iPhone will greatly increase the chance of somebody talking to you about their iPhone, IT experts warned last night.

The worm, which changes the phone's wallpaper to a picture of 80s singer Rick Astley, was developed by an Australian hacker after he ran out of reasons to start conversations with his friends about his new iPhone.

Bill McKay, technology analyst at Madeley-Finnegan, said: “A phone for tw@ts has been hacked by a tw@t to change the wallpaper to a picture of another tw@t in a self-sustaining cycle of tw@t.

"We're tentatively calling it Pertwatual Motion."

The first case was reported in a Sydney wine bar after staff noticed the clientele being stalked by a man feverishly talking about passwords, firewalls and how it was like having your whole life in your pocket.

Within days, Australian public transport had to enforce an iPhone quarantine on all major routes after four pensioners were beaten to death by a man unable to reset his iPhone wallpaper to a picture of Scarlett Johansson eating a banana.

Apple CEO Steve Jobs said the virus only hits phones which had been 'jailbroken' to allow users to install their own software and said an application would be released to resolve the issue by exploding affected handsets into a cloud of beautifully sleek shards of molten plastic.

Jobs said: "Once again earthlings, this illustrates the monumental hubristic folly of defying my orders."

A bit more paranoia and hysterics, but with a serious message:

BBC News - New iPhone worm can act like botnet say experts

If I were the author of Open SSH I'd make it a requirement to make a new password when installing. They should also force down a Cydia update to do the same for existing installations

It was inevitable once the press and internet sites explained to the world what the password was left as and to check for ssh on iphones found on a wireless connection.

Hope they don't publish the fact that an iphone smashed between 2 bricks can render the touchscreen inoperative

You have to install SSH and leave the password as standard to be affected by this, and if you do that your asking for it.

Although I would dare say the vast majority of SSH users are therefore "asking for it" under the above system.
