Does UL / JB cause the battery to die quicker than normal?

Or is that just what the 3GS is like normally? Hardly even got 24 hours out of my first charge and that was pretty light usage.

I havent noticed a difference in battery life having it jailbroken but I agree the battery life is terrible. I find disabling the 3g when not in use makes it last quite a bit longer.

Cheers R

I'm hoping it'll improve slightly once I re-charge it a few times. However that's a concern if you can expect less than 24 hours out of it.

Most people I know seem to only get about 24 hours out of the battery allthough they do leave everything enabled all the time. I tend to turn things off when not in use and get about 2 days out of my 3g

Re: Does UL / JB cause the battery to die quicker than normal?

I used to turn things off to save battery life, but don't bother any more. I bought the phone for it's feature list and I have electricity in my house, so if I need to charge it each night I can do.

I'm lucky that I also work for a company that has electricity, so I can charge it at work.

I think my car even has it...

If you're in the house or work I am pretty sure you could use a landline - kind of defeats the purpose of a "mobile" phone if the battery is pretty dire and you have to be connected to the mains.

My landline doesn't collect and send my email, play games, browse the internet, send or receive text messages, watch video, play YouTube, play music, play podcasts, let me watch TV, have installable applications for everything from news to password banks.... does yours?

So you think the battery is above criticism?

Fair doos.

Where did I say that?

What I did say was that while the battery wasn't great, it's rare that you're nowhere near a power supply so it's not the end of the world. And if you're going to be away in the middle of the woods camping, take a mobile power pack to charge it.

You can just about squeeze a couple of days out of the battery by turning off all the features. But if you're going to do this, why did you buy an iPhone? Or any smartphone for that matter, as most last the same time.

You didn't - that was my perception You didn't actually mention anything about the battery being good bad or indifferent, as far as I can see.

I bought one because I wanted one - I wasn't aware a purchase of something precluded you from having an opinion on it, and asking a relatively straightforward question about it.

Re: Does UL / JB cause the battery to die quicker than normal?

Anyway - thanks for the comments on the thread; it has certainly helped me understand that UL / JB doesn’t have a detrimental impact on the battery.

A great resource of information, as always.

Re: Does UL / JB cause the battery to die quicker than normal?

You're being very touchy about this... were you hoping for a different answer? I thought my comments about always being near a power supply were a clear sign I agreed the battery life wasn't great?

And as a rule, don't ask for opinions and views if you don't want answers.

On a more practical note, the first charge in any similar device always gives poorer results than later charge cycles. There have been many, many threads on the subject here so loads of reading on it if you're interested. But the best advice is to ensure you perform a full charge-discharge cycle for the first few charges and then make sure you do so at least once a month from then on. This is backed by Apple on their website.

Re: Does UL / JB cause the battery to die quicker than normal?

It always amazes me when people bleat on about the battery life on the iPhone (or any smart phone with similar capabilities, the iPhone is definitely not in the minority when it comes to its battery performance).

If you want the battery to last a week or two get the Nokia 1100.

BTW my iPhone's battery can last 5 days if I turn off wifi, 3G, location services. Don't listen to music, play games, use the internet...e.t.c, e.t.c.
