Hi,

I have just bought an iPhone 3G 16GB from ebay which is locked to O2.

Can somebody help me. I need to know how to unlock it so I can use my vodafone contract sim in it. Also, does jailbreaking it unlock it for other sims too?

The firmware version is 3.0 (Build 7A341)

Also, can I update to a later version or is that not a possibility?

Oh and once unlocked, will my Vodafone 3G sim be ok for WiFi etc?

Thought it'd be easier just to ask for specific model as I have been trawling through the forum for an hour trying to make head/tail of things!! lol

Just one more question Do I upgrade to firmware 3.1 before jailbreaking/unlocking or will it happen when i jailbreak when phone is still on 3.0?

depends whether you want to blackrain on windows or pwnage on mac.

blackrain you need to update to 3.1

pwnage you just use the pwnage tool and dont update.



p.s. wifi will work regardless of simlock (obviously with o2 you get access to btopenzone and cloud hotpsots which you wont get with voda)

So, you say update to 3.1 then? Which is the latest firmware that I can upgrade to and still both Jailbreak and Unlock the phone?

As far as I can see 3.1 cannot be jailbroken but can be unlocked. I need to do both. Sorry if I'm being a pain in the arse but I'm really confused! (I have an ipod touch which I jailbroke easy enough though! lol)

if you are using windows you can use blackra1n to jailbreak and blacksn0w to unlock, to do this you have to update to 3.1, have a readthrough phairplays blackrain thread and go to

Will updating to 3.1.2 via iTunes change my baseband from 04.26.08 to 05.11.07?
