So.... OK to order a new iPhone 3GS from Apple then

If I want to unlock to T-Mobile?

Looks like it's all OK? Correct? (Just want to know before I place another order on Apple)

No No No No. If you order a new iPhone 3GS it will come with the new bootloader. This means that if you ever need to turn the phone off or the battery runs out, you can only switch it on again by using Blackra1n.

Hi StuBFrost,

Can you send a link which explains this theory?

Thanks

If you look at the iclarified tutorial on iClarified - iPhone - How to Jailbreak and Unlock Your iPhone 3G, 3GS Using BlackSn0w [Windows] you can see it mentioned.

OK - but if I don't switch it off or let the batter die then I should be OK. And if I do I just have to connect it my PC again and run the JB / UL software?

Yes that is correct but don't underestimate what a hassle it will be if you are out and about and suddenly can't use your phone.

Fair enough.

I won't be that far from a PC if I am - also if the phone dies then it dies regardless if it's an iPhone or A.N. Other phone, I won't be able to use it until I charge it and by that time a PC will most likely be close at hand.

Just need to get a netbook and keep it in the car (good excuse)

What are the chances of getting one of the newer ones with the bootloader, as I'm gonna exchange my current 3gs as it's cracking

Re: So.... OK to order a new iPhone 3GS from Apple then

I bought my 3gs less than a couple of weeks ago from the Apple store. It has the latest firmware 3.1.2 and baseband 5.11.07. I unlocked it on Weds night with the new Blackra1n and its been switched off since then and had no probs whatsoever,it boots up fine on the Vodafone network(no Blackra1n req'd)

I'm the same - just unlocked it and JB; switched it off and on to see what would happen.

No issues, right back onto T-Mobile. All looks good.

I can understand you're new ones having new bootroms, but I'll more than likely get a refurb, how likely are refurbs to have the bootrom?

Re: So.... OK to order a new iPhone 3GS from Apple then

Who knows?

All you can do is ask for one from week 39 or earlier.....

Or hope that the dev team or geo can crack the boot rom (and let's be honest - they've cracked EVERY version since the iPhone was released) so the odds look good....

It's just a matter of time.....
