Help! 2G Iphone locked!

Hi,

I recently bought a iphone. The chap that i bought it off said it was unlocked but he didnt know much about it. It all worked and seemed fine so i bought it. When i out my tmobile sim in it it wouldnt work so i followed the guide on how to unlock it.

First I connected to itunes and updated to the latest version 3.1.2 before carrying on. Then i tried the restore program and it just stuck at "waiting to restore".

After two hours nothing so had to discconect and try again, same thing. Today i go a o2 sim and put it in the phone and it wont even read that! HAve dont the standard restore by hlding the buttons etc to try and get it back to how the factory settings. Once restored and connected to Itunes all it says is i need to insert a compatiable sim card. CAlled apple and they say with the serial number its on a spanish network and they wont deal!!!!

I really dont want to have to pay someone else fix it using software probably developed by someone else. Any ideas? Thanks

Re: Help! 2G Iphone locked!

Probably a bad idea to upgrade the firmware.

iClarified - iPhone - How to Unlock/Jailbreak Your iPhone 2G on OS 3.1.2 Using PwnageTool (Mac)

If you have a mac that's what you do.

Re: Help! 2G Iphone locked!

there are custom firmwares available that all you do is restore via itunes that will automatically unlock and jailbreak.

i did this with mine.

all you have to do is download the firmware(cant remember where i got it) and connect iphone to itunes and hold down shift and click restore and then select the location of file and sit back and watch it work its magic.

Re: Help! 2G Iphone locked!

If you've updated a 3G using itunes it would be on 3.2.1 firmware which for all intents is currently not unlockable.

2 caveats:

- if it is a real old model you may be able to downgrade the firmware using a program called fuzzyband which only runs after you jailbreak the phone

- there are people hoping to provide an unlock (again it'll need you to jailbreak the phone. But can't say how long this will take.

You can jailbreak and activate the phone using a custom firmware created on a mac and downloaded from a trusted source to use on your PC. It will then either only use the spanish sim or if one of the 2 caveats above work you can unlock it.

here's hoping

Re: Help! 2G Iphone locked!

If this is the case, and i think it is i will have to bite the bullet. I see there are several companies i can send it off to for repair. Anyone recommend one?

Have also heard apple will p/x iphones for new ones. Anyone done this?

Re: Help! 2G Iphone locked!

Repair it for what? Is it broken?

JB via Blackra1n then run fuzzyband and see if that works. If you can downgrade to the 4.26 basebane then run ultrasn0w and be happy...

If you can't then hang in there....there is an unlock on the way....

Re: Help! 2G Iphone locked!

Geohot the guy behind the blackra1n jailbreak programs has apparently discovered an unlock method for all the update 5.11.07 phones and is due to release blacksn0w on or around 4th Nov.

So you could be in luck (along with a few thousand others...)

The software either works immediately for some or with a load of hassle for others.

Things to try:

Leave blackrain running and power the phone off & on again.

Run itunes and connect phone then stop any itunes programs in Task Manager before starting blackrain

Had the same sort of hassle myself with the first version.
