I hate to start threads like this but I can't get my head round it! I have just bought a 3G from the classifieds that is 3.0 and not jailbroken etc and sold my 2G that was unlocked on 3.1.2. What is the process on Mac for me to get the 3G up to date? I'm very confused about basebands and blackra1ns, all I did was pwnage my 2G every time a Dev Team update came around, this seems more painful.

I followed this link and to be honest I'm more confused now! I know its for Windows and I'm on Mac but any help would be great

Hi mate. There's an excellent tutorial that will take you through it step by step on iClarified, including links to all the files you'll need:

iClarified - iPhone - How to Jailbreak Your iPhone 3G on OS 3.1.2 Using PwnageTool (Mac)

This will upgrade you to 3.1.2 without upgrading the baseband, so once you've followed the tutorial you just need to install Ultrasn0w from Cydia if you need the unlock.

It's very straightforward, sure you'll have no problems. If you get stuck though then post back.
