Cydia crashing

Hi all,

I am having problems with my jailbroken 3G 3.0.

Ever since the jailbreak, Cydia has been very temperamental - i.e. crashing when I click the Cydia icon. A new window opens, but then that window closes and I return to Spring/Winterboard. I have been able to use Cydia since the jailbreak, but the problem has got worse and now I can't access it at all.

I have had similar problems with other apps - mainly Facebook, which loads up and then the FB screen freezes and closes the app.

Any ideas?

I'm hoping that I don't need to re-jailbreak and that maybe a 3.1 update might resolve this for me.

Thanks

Re: Cydia crashing

This is going to sound stupid but have you re-booted the iphone. i.e. turned it off and back on again. Like all computers the iphone is prone to have its RAM soaked up by all those JB apps.

Re-booting makes no difference

Re: Cydia crashing

I posted in the cydia thread yesterday that i was having problems it.

I've been looking to see if you can just restore Cydia but it seems you cant. So I need to re JB and restore, but i cant be arsed.

I think all in all my phone has been noticeably slower and more flaky since the 3.0 upgrade. Much slower than it was running a JB'en 2.2.1 firmware device.

I re-JB'd today. Cydia works fine again and everything seems a little faster than last time. I used RedSn0w 7.2 this time instead of 7.0 (or 7.1?) last time.

Just redone my phone (sync'ing the last of my music now)

Decided to set up the phone as a new device this time (ditched my last backup) the phone seems more stable now that it did before and a bit nippier than before

Oh Crap!

Looks like I'll have to re-do my iPhone now, then, because like you, Cydia has decided to go kaput on me, and as soon as it attempts to start (and shows the Loading Data screen and animated circular logo), it simply goes back to my main iPhone screen.

Does anyone know why this has suddenly happened? I haven't downloaded any new apps in ages (weeks), and suddenly Cydia goes tits-up?!

Maybe cydia is just having problems? Wait a few hours and see if it sorts itself?

Actually, saying that, mine is working fine so maybe at your end! Then again, you say you havent downloaded anything so nothing should be messing it up really. Restart your phone, see if it does anything.

Question Re: Cydia crashing

Hi,

Well, Cydia is still not working, and seeing as re-jailbreaking my phone failed to fix the problem, it must be Cydia. Thanks for the help folks. Anyone know if Cydia is a website or a programme on a server?

Unhappy Re: Cydia crashing

HI,

Well, just checked again, after UEF's post above, and Cydia still isn't working on my Jailbroken 3G, iTunes 3.0, iPhone!

All I get is the usual "Loading Data" screen, and then after about 5-8 seconds, I'm thrown back to the main iPhone screen.

So, does anyone have any answers?!

Re: Cydia crashing

Cydia is working fine for me.

I'll take a punt her and guess that the "all sources" repo has been selected? i would think that there is a problem with one of the sources and thats whats bombing it out.

no really very helpful sorry but i dont think the problem is with Cydia.

Question Re: Cydia crashing

HI,

Thanks for the help folks. Should I simply update iTunes to 3.0.1, then re-jailbreak my iPhone, (as per the instructions on iClarify) to cure the problem, or is there someway of updating Cydia itself, or at least removing it, then reinstalling it?!

Question Re: Cydia crashing

Oops,

Forgot to ask: when I re-jailbreak my phone tonight, (having updated iTunes to 3.0.1), will I lose all of my telephone numbers and contact details? If so, is there a way to save them, other than copying them all down with pen and paper?

Thumbs up Re: Cydia crashing

Afternoon Everyone,

Okay, well I've finally jailbroken my iPhone for the second time, after working out why Redsnow wouldn't recognise my iPhone firmware.

That's because, you have to:

1) Update iTunes to version 3.0.1, and use the firmware file called "iPhone1.2_3.0.1_7A400_Restore", but then...

2) Once your iPhone's been reformatted and prepared by iTunes, use Redsnow to jailbreak it, but get Redsnow to use firmware file "iPhone1.2_3.0_A7341_Restore" instead!

Both ipsw files are 235mb in downloads! So dial-up modem users, should forget this! (I had to use my local library's wireless internet service instead, to get them both.)

Basically, you can upgrade iTunes to 3.0.1, but then Redsnow will downgrade your iPhone partially, to 3.0, in order to Jailbrek it, but retaining all the 3.0.1 functionality!

Now, my 3G phone is all working good and proper, so is Cydia , and I can now re-install all my Apps again, via iTunes, and re-enter all of my Contacts (which are currently written down on both sides of an A4 piece of paper)!

It's been a bit of a stressful few hours, as I thought I'd totally bricked my iPhone last night, but once I'd realised the problem (see the notes in 1 and 2 above), it all became clear!

Thanks to everyone in this thread, especially UEF, Gary D and Chelsea.Tone for their help, advice, wisdom, guidance... and more importantly, patience with me, in helping rectify this issue! Thanks folks!

Now, we return you all to your normal scheduled programming!
