Try this as a demo for how it works
pick a theme and place it at the top (you can move things up and down the list on the right hand side of the screen)
now activate the "No docked icon labels" in the list (make sure its below the theme)
now exit winterboard
when the phone has resprung you will see your theme and you will notice that you still have icon labels under your dock.
now go back into winterboard and move "No docked icon labels" ABOVE your theme
exit winterboard
when the phone has resprung you will see that he icon labels have now disappeared
this is because the "No docked icon labels" is now taking precedence over the theme.
If you move it back the labels will reappear.
Try it with the user lock background option. | |

Have to admit that it all sounded a bit daunting, but its quite simple once you apply a few. The "Alarm LITE" application is quite good too (App Store) |

Annoy a teen is my current fav - sends out a sonic pulse over a 6 foot radius of the phone to anyone under 20, seems to work ok - i'm conducting sonic warfare experiments on my nephew today.
back on topic'ish
get the MacBook Air Keyboard - its better than the default
