Can an iphone an XP X64 work together

I would really prefer to steer clear on any itunes but if its gotta be done then its gotta be done
I have XP X64 but its stripped down (X64 Borge edt.) I'm not holding up much hope but was wondering if anyone had managed or had any idea how to get an iphone detected?
At the moment I do have itunes installed but my iphone doesn't get detected however windows does detect it as an iphone and I can transfer photos if that any consolation.
Any bright ideas would be great because at the moment I have to boot into 32bit XP to transfer anything and even that hardly works with stoopid, flippin, iboons

Cheers
Jamie
