Text Message Name Doesn't Display

Hi,

I have had my 3gs for a day so this may be me being stupid.

When people send me a text message their name doesn't appear only their phone number.

So (for example) when my girlfriend texts me it comes up with her mobile number and not her name even though she is saved as a contact on my phone.

How do I fix this? Can someone help me please?

Thanks

Barry

Re: Text Message Name Doesn't Display

Hi,

I'm not an iPhone owner as yet, but will be come Tuesday, anyway, if it's anything like say a Nokia phone, could the cause be because you have your contacts stored both on your Phone and Sim Card? an so the phone doesn't know where to take the name from, and so only shows the number.

Could be wrong, but thought I'd suggest it

Regards

Mark.

Re: Text Message Name Doesn't Display

the caller ID doesn't match the number for the person in your address book. Not in the address book, wrong in the address book, country code assumed by address book is wrong, phone configured to assume wrong country code. (iPhone doesn't use the SIM card address book, only the address book you can see on the screen; if you've transferred a SIM with address book from another phone, you need to transfer the SIM address book to your Mac/PC/iPhone address book.)

Re: Text Message Name Doesn't Display

It can also be due to multiple address book entries matching (although for phone calls at least, it tells you so). But it still doesn't look at the SIM card.
