Cant sync music in itunes

I have a iphone 8gig with 3.1.2 JB
I can sync apps and contacts in itunes, but not music.
When the transfer starts my phone disappears from itunes but the phone says its still syncing. I tried transferring on my girlfriends computer and it works. I can only think that its because I have a fresh install of windows xp 32 sp3 and a bit of hardware is not install, but then why do the apps sync ok?
itunes is new to me but i think i got it sussed.
At the moment im going to have to put any albums i want on a USB stick and transfer which is a DRAG
open to suggestions

i had exactly the same problem, would sync everthing but music.

I tried all of the obvious things such as making sure the music folders were ticked to sync but still no joy.
Eventually i tried syncing everything except the apps and what do you know the music installed fine!
Don't know if i had a 'bad app' or something but worked for me.Give it a shot mate it might work!

hmm its a nice idea but im only trying music
