Listening to BBC Radio 4 on the iPhone

Does anyone know how to about listening to BBC Radio 4 on the iPhone, without the need to spend £3 to £5 on an application (I do after all pay a license fee!)

Re: Listening to BBC Radio 4 on the iPhone

Thanks for the links guys, I also found this website: BBC Radio iPhone Streams which gives you all the links to the BBC Radio streams as well as a handy tutorial to using them with Fstream.

Pythagoras is that where you got those links from?

Re: Listening to BBC Radio 4 on the iPhone

I think it's worth paying a few quid for one of the paid apps which, IMO, hold a signal better.

I prefer ooTunes.

Yes, free is great but some of the Apps are really good and, IMHO, worth forking out for (Wunder Radio at £3.99 does it for me)

Cheers

Re: Listening to BBC Radio 4 on the iPhone

I listen to radio 4 every morning on my phonevia the free app called tunin.fm aka Icar radio lite. Takes a couple of minutes to buffer when it's opened but works perfectly after that even with no 3g signal. Highly recommended and seems to have hundreds of stations to choose from.

Re: Listening to BBC Radio 4 on the iPhone

I notice when using Fstream over GPRS or 3G that the stations keeps cutting out and rebuffering due to bandwidth issues(its fine over Wifi). I presume this would be the same for any app?
I dont want to pay for one of these other apps then find out I am no better off.

Cheers

You should not have any problems with 3g, but with GPRS you will have problems. Over GPRS you can only stream very low bitrate audio (64kbps if not less) which will sound pretty poor especially with music. It does not mater which app you use, you will always bit at the mercy of the stations bitrate and your network bandwidth. Basically you need wifi or a solid 3g connection. No app really works any better than any other in this respect, or improve sound quality, better apps will just give you better UI, features and stream type support etc.
