Unresponsive area on touch screen

It's an iPhone 1st gen. I dropped it a few days ago and thought I'd escaped with merely a scratch until I noticed that the touch screen was being glitchy. At first I thought it was the heat playing tricks but I booted up my iSteam app and the problem became very visually apparant when I tried to 'wipe' the 'steam' from the screen. Looky. V

That strip is dead to response basically. It affects a few really important functions too.

The phone is not under warranty I would assume as it is jailbroken and around 15 months old. Plus I dropped it. I still have the reciept though.

Is there anything I can do to fix it or somewhere I can send it? Any advice would be great. I can no longer play Paper Toss in Hard mode!

Re: Unresponsive area on touch screen

There have been a number of threads recently about replacement screens for the iPhone, so use the Search function and see what you find. In fact, it's advised to do that before posting as there are very few questions that haven't been answered these days!

BUMP

Apologies to the mod but I have been unable to find any useful information despite searching. To be honest, your suggestion that I need to replace the screen is something I'd actually want clarifying. Would that make the screen work?

Anyway, I can't find any threads here regarding replacing the screen. If anyone can link me up or give me any useful advice I'd be eternally grateful.

Also if anyone knows if there is anywhere in South/Central London I can take the iPhone to be repaired while I wait that'd be great.

The digitizer is the touch screen aspect of the screen between the LCD and the glass. If the screen is unresponsive its this that needs changing. Im not sure you can just buy the digitizer unattached from the rest of the screen? Ive read before its recommended that you replace the whole thing to ensure the correct fit etc etc.

Theres hundreds of videos on youtube showing you step by step instructions how to. Remember though, opening up your phone will void your warranty. You might want to take it to apple and see how much they would charge for a repair??

If you decide you want to send it somewhere to be fixed then google is your friend! I just googed "iphone screen repair central london" and go loads of results like: WE WILL FIX YOUR IPHONE SCREEN IN MINUTES!! - Home etc etc.

Good luck!
