Question Remote Wipe or cancel IMEI?

It has just occurred to me that if I lost my iPhone and didn't cancel the SIM and the IMEI immediately I would still be liable for all the calls made on the phone. But if I do that, won't MobileMe's Find My iPhone and Remote Wipe stop working?

Say I just cancel the SIM. Will Find My iPhone still work then?

I mean I love the concept of Find My iPhone and Remote Wipe, and I've paid for Mobile Me, but if it comes to the worst, will I ever have a chance to use them?

Re: Remote Wipe or cancel IMEI?

The way I see it is that I would use Find My iPhone to see if it is actually lost (rather than just in your house or at a mates).

Remote wipe is purely to ensure that nobody can get at any sensitive data you have on your iPhone, as you say once you do it Find My iPhone is rendered useless.

If I ever lost mine I would report it stolen then Remote Wipe it.

Re: Remote Wipe or cancel IMEI?

I think the point niall is making is that the instant you report it lost/stolen it'll be kicked from the mobile network and blocked and therefore your remote wipe command will not reach the phone!

I guess you just need to time it well and wipe it just before you phone to report it lost.

Re: Remote Wipe or cancel IMEI?

What sensitive information do people actually have stored on their iPhones? I wouldn't care at all if someone else had access to all my files. Though I'd be slightly annoyed at loosing the phone until I got it replaced
