I think it's about £1 - but well worth it for the speed you get in browsing - plus it's approved by site admin here

Re: AVForums App ?

I have to say. I don't find using this or any other forum slow or ill-fitting with Safari on my 3GS at all. In fact, the vBulletin template seems to fit very well.

I sometimes use it when i only have GPRS (where i work there is rarely 3G or wifi) and it is faster, although i much prefer Safari.

Start the app, goto AVForums then

Home Electronics > Mobile Phones and PDAs > iPhone Discussions

Re: AVForums App ?

Bought this yesterday but I'm a bit dissapointed.

It is quick to load but due to the following reasons, I doubt I'll use it much:

Doesn't highlight updated threads.

I have my AVF settings to show posts in reverse order with the newest at the top. When I go into a thread with this it goes straight to the last page (which for me is the first page). I then have to select page 1 to see the most recent posts.

You can't get to the parent forum of a thread that you're viewing - I quite often go into my subscribed threads, look at a thread and then use the breadcrumb trail at the top of the web page to see the parent forum. On tapatalk you need to navigate to the forum from the top level. It would be good if it had a favourite forums (athough it would be good to have that on AVF as well).

It doesn't save your place when you exit the app - you have to navigate back to the thread you were viewing.

Tapping a link exits the app and goes to Safari (understandable but a pain if you want to go back to the thread you were viewing).

Most of these aren't really bugs but make using safari an easier option.

Is there anything I'm missing on any of these points?

It's not that I think it's crap - i can just see myself using Safari.

Maybe like autopilot, I'll find it useful for a quick browse when I've only got a GPRS signal.

I would definitely wait for now as they seem to be having a few issues with the app crashing. They do have a free version you can try. the only difference between the two is that with the free version you can’t reply to threads and check PMs but at least you could see if you like it.

Free version Here

Tapatalk is pretty much unusable at the moment. Everytime I switch threads it collapses and alot of the time it can't even find the threads to take you too.

I would certainly hold off at least until version 1.5 comes out (which apparently will fix alot of the issue). Anyone know what rights we have if they don't fix it i.e. refund or swap for different on on App Store?

Still crashing for me! Can't view more than 2 threads in the same sub forum without going back to the springboard.

Bought the full version, seems ok - remembers your place in the forums if you close the app which is nice and you can see who placed the last post unlike Tapatalk... links don't work though and it can sometimes be awkward getting to the most recent posts in threads... overall TapaTalk still slightly better but will keep both on for now.

I only got the free version so not sure what the full version gives you extra but I did like it (and the fact it didn't crash).

Wasn't sure about the page slider down the side found it difficult to work out where I was in the thread a lot of the time.

Its also good as it doesn't load every forum and its sub forum only the ones you need to see at that point making the loading faster.

Didn't look at any posts that had photos or videos so not sure how that was handled, can anyone expand?

I personally have gone back to using Safari until a stable merger of the two comes out

The only issue I have with tapatalk is the thread view starting with the earliest post. Takes forever to get to the last reply on some threads....
