Re: Sygic Europe Voice Guided GPS Navigation App Out Now.

Well if the garish screen pics on their website are anything to go by then I think I'll stick with Navigon - those maps look horrible! Still, good to have a bit of choice out there. Come along TomTom!

But they do have something very important to a lot of users - speed cameras

This looks like the one to beat at the moment - shame it's not in English but here is a video -

It looks pretty good to me - wonder if it has 7 digit postcode???

YouTube - Sygic - Mobile Maps Europe Turn by Turn Voice Guided GPS

Re: Sygic Europe Voice Guided GPS Navigation App Out Now.

Laughable interview, but gives more an impression of the app...

YouTube - #56: Sygic [Turn by turn GPS for iPhone]

I nearly went with the navigon the other day, but I keep saying to myself 'wait for the tomtom', and then this one crops up with I think looks to have a much nicer interface and look than the navigon one, plus some additional features... main bugbear for me is the size of 1.9gig.... just a waste of so much space when I just need UK.

Re: Sygic Europe Voice Guided GPS Navigation App Out Now.

Seems folks that have downloaded it can't use it as they get an 8003 error code. Not a good start to their app store reviews.

Thanks for posting the youtube video. I like the idea of finding a POI and then searching for nearby parking.

I'd like a British Isles version like Navigon have published.

Post Re: Sygic Europe Voice Guided GPS Navigation App Out Now.

Statement from Sygic website. They must be gutted.

Quote:
Status update: Sygic has temporarily suspended the listing of Mobile Maps Europe on iTunes store.
June 27, 2009

Sygic has already informed Apple iTunes about the problem #8003 that has been repeatedly reported to Sygic Support. Unfortunately, the problem is not on our side and we cannot make any direct changes on iTunes side.
The Sygic Mobile Maps versions for Australia and South East Asia are number 1 and featured applications by Apple there.

The standard process of developer is:
1. Send the product for approval to Apple.
2. Apple tests the product and once approved they place it on iTunes.
3. There is no direct way to change anything on iTunes - just to wait until the Apple team fixes the problem.

Information for existing customers that are experiencing the problem #8003:
This situation is very unpleasant to us, and we are trying to hurry up Apple team to fix this issue as soon as possible. Your e-mails with description of the problem to Apple support team might help to solve the problem faster. According to previous experience with error #8003 by other companies, once Apple fixes it, you will be able to download again, so your payment will not be lost.

Please contact Sygic Support team at support@sygic.com, in order to stay updated about the current status, and we will also try to find some compensation for this unpleasant experience.

Thank you for understanding and every voice from you to Apple may fix the problem sooner.

Not only does it have full 7 digit post code search, when you start typing a post code it does some clever things, like auto switching the keyboard between letters and number, and also filtering out unavailable digits (for example where I live there are post codes ending 1BA, 1BB and 1BD, but not 1BC. So when I type xxx1B, the C on the keyboard is greyed out!)

Also the options are pretty expansive in the app, much like you'd find on a TomTom, not like Navigon, which is very sparse.

There's a version kicking about that's a modified Australia & New Zealand one, but with UK & Cyprus maps only, plus UK speed cams, and it's only 246MB, if you know where to look...

Re: Sygic Europe Voice Guided GPS Navigation App Out Now.

You can do the same thing as with the Navigon, regarding unzipping and deleting all un-needed maps.

It works fine.

Well, IPAs are just big zip files, so you could probably just do it that way

I got Europe this morning, managed to hack it down to 200mb with just 'GBR' installed, confirmed working if a bit scruffy looking compared to my TomTom Navigator 7 running on Windows Mobile 2003 on a 4 year old PDA...

Re: Sygic Europe Voice Guided GPS Navigation App Out Now.

I think you may be zipping it up wrong

i had this problem.

Make sure you zip it back up in the same structure and it was unzipped in.

i.e. dont put it in a extra parent folder, zip up 2 files,

Payload
itunesartwork

Dont put them in a folder and zip that folder

Unhappy Re: Sygic Europe Voice Guided GPS Navigation App Out Now.

Anybody experience the software is very slow to realise that you have turned of a road but the program would take a couple of seconds to realise? Also the speed indicator takes a couple of seconds to notice the change in speed. I have restored my Iphone, the gps signal is full on the program and I dont have a reflective wind screen.

Thanks

Re: Sygic Europe Voice Guided GPS Navigation App Out Now.

Anyone have any more experieces of this.
Im waiting for TomTom to update their App, but have aload of iTunes vouchers spare and woudl ike to run it side by side with TomTom to see which is most reliable as i have a very important journey to do next week and cant afford to lose signal.
The sale supposedly ends tomorrow for the UK maps, and at £26 might be worth it.
