iPhone 4S cases

Right, so we know the iPhone 4S shares the same design as the iPhone 4, BUT, it uses the antenna layout of the CDMA Verizon iPhone 4 rather than the older GSM AT&T one, although it takes the microsim slot from that model. This basically amounts to the volume buttons and mute switch being moved down slightly.

Therefore, as a 'read me' before you go and buy an iPhone 4 case for your 4S, make sure it's either

a) compatible with both: slip cases/pouches are obviously going to be fine here, as well as ones with mostly naked sides
b) made for the CDMA iPhone

Or just wait for sites to update their information so they state which cases are compatible.

I'm personally looking for a high quality pouch type thing with scratch-free insides as the design of the 4 is too nice to cover up.

Comparison of 'iPhone 4S' Antenna Band to GSM and CDMA iPhone 4 - Mac Rumors

See these pics for a visual comparison. Between 4S, CDMA and GSM. As you can see, the 4S is basically the CDMA with a microsim slot.

iPhone 4s Case Recommendations?

I've ordered a 4s and I want a decent but relatively slim cover for it. Basically something to keep it relatively safe if I drop it and, if possible, something to protect the screen. Any suggestions please?

Yeah, I've been looking around but there are literally 1,000s of options. Plus I'm a bit wary as most seem to be just i4 phone cases that are now also i4s cases. Although the phones are almost identical I don't want to spend cash on a case that doesn't have the right cutout for the camera or such.

I'll probably wait until I get the phone and then have a good look around.

14 months on and the Scratchwraps and the leather case are still great.

They are almost identical, but ever so slightly different. It will only be a problem if the case has specific cut outs for the volume and mute buttons.

Thanks. That's useful. Looks like my iPhone 4 case should fit fine, also the Scratchwraps kit should be ok.

Are those scratch wrap kits any good? I just want some protection for the sides so I can put a bumper on.

Can't fault it! I've had the complete front, back and sides kit on for 14 months now and it's almost as good as the day it went on. Mine does live in a fitted leather flipcase as well however.

This is how it looks now:

iPhone 4 16GB For Sale by danyeates, on Flickr

Just the very top piece where the front cover of the flipcase secures is coming loose, and around the mute switch where I catch it when moving the switch.

It doesn't work with the bumper though as the bumper pulls the edges of the case off. However, I see they now do a bumper friendly wrap, which must fit better with the bumper.

This is my case: https://picasaweb.google.com/1171933...21888/IPhone4#

I didn't get what you meant by the bit I highlighted in bold?
Why won't it work with the bumper? Does the bumper pull the scratchworks kit off?

The bumper version isn't to fit under the bumper, its to fit the front and back unfortunately.

It pulled the side/edge stickers off when first installing it. Also, once it was on, the edge of the bumper was in the exact same place as the edge of the front or back protectors, so if the bumper moved in the slightest, it pulled up an edge of the protector. I'd imagine the bumper friendly protector, the front and back panels are ever so slightly smaller. This is an assumption however.

I only put the bumper on to try it, never used it since.

Ah right, thanks. Yeah the bumper friendly one has slightly narrower front and back protectors, that fit inside the edge of the bumper, I guess to stop this exact thing.
Which is annoying, as I have already bought my front and back protectors, and was hoping to put a bumper on!

What colour is yours? Fancy selling it if you don't use it?

I am a big fan of the incipio feather cases. They are only 1mm thick so don't add bulk to the phone.

You have suggested colours there so my idea of just clear probably wont go down too well?!
I really like to see the original iPhone.

I dont know why but I am not a fan of the clear cases, they always seem to look cheap after a few months or in my case a few weeks.

However cheers for the suggestion.

I like the glossy pearl metallic grey though. It's quite bland though, obviously compared to the other colours, I may get one of them myself.
I used a feather when I had the 3GS and loved it, great case!

For those looking to get a colourful case (eg for missus) these are impressive:
phone cases

I've ordered this one for my other half, shipping is cheaper if buying through case-mate (only $5 to UK). The cases come in 3 varieties: barely there, tough case and ID/credit.

Personally i'm buying the Graft Concepts Leverage case for my ip4s

I did too, but found they peeled horrendously, and also every one I had cracked around the corners with minimal use. Didn't even drop the phone! Since then, I have just looked elsewhere, as their price doesn't reflect the quality.

Can someone explain the negatives with a bumper?

If I keep my phone in a pocket by itself. . . will the bumper really scratch the side?

I'm still weird about the bumper!!!

It's the perfect case. . .keeps thin profile. . .protects from bumps. . .

But scratching the **** out of the antenna will affect my resale value

Is there like something that apple sell with the bumper that would protect the antenna from scratches.

A bumper. . .protector bumper. . .if you like

HEY!!!!

I have some AWESOME stuff for anyone who wants a bumper but doesn't want scratches from dirt getting between the bumper and the antenna!

Buy these first AND THEN the bumper!

iPhone 4S - iPhone

You pick THREE cases (I choose to cover up the sim card slot for max protection but you can choose to leave it open). Pick 3 colours. . . I choose silver, transparent, and white.

They cover your ENTIRE iPhone Antenna.

The best bit? The price.

Create and account. . .log in. . .pick your three cases and then at the checkout enter coupon code: iphone4s35

I got 3 of the cases and shipping to northern ireland for a PayPal price of £6.19.

Absolute bargain.

When they arrive I'll get a bumper.

Says they're designed to leave no residue so when it comes to selling i'll take it off.

The little bands look cool as well!!

Hi,

I had only the apple bumper on my Iphone4 since launch last year and there was definately no scratch anywhere at all till i sold last week. It has dropped so many times as well which is why i probably will always go for someting similar to to Apple bumper because of the raised/covered edges

... so not sure how you guys are getting scratches ...?

However you can get cheap shields from ebay to cover all round the edges only if worried and then use a case...

shame about the price of the apple bumpers though.

any other good makes similar to apple bumber?
