iPhone users - do you use a case?

I am frustrated by iPhone docking equipment manufacturers who don't cater for people using cases.
The new iPhone Tom Tom car kit is one example. The phone clips in and there is no room for a case.
That excludes me as my iPhone is permanently in an Otterbox case.

Do you use a case?

Re: iPhone users - do you use a case?

Got a leather case for my new 3GS. I take it out all the time as it would be silly not to feel and see such a lovely design. But it needs to be protected when in your pocket or bag so I find a leather wallet or sock ideal. My first iPhone I had naked and within a year it was scratched and dented and eventually the screen broke after dropping it onto the pavement. This could happen again but the likelyhood is that it'd be protected by the case. I wouldn't like to have it in one of these permanent shells. It's a bit like these people who have sofas and keep a plastic cover on them. Use it and enjoy it but have a way of protecting it when you're out and about. The number of times I put my old iPhone into my jeans pockets with keys and change was scary despite my good intentions.

Another Incipio Feather user. Love it as it fits in all my docks without removal.

Re: iPhone users - do you use a case?

Had a variety of iPhones. USA 8gb 2G original, 3G 8gb (now my Wife's), 3G 16gb white - (malfunctioned, replaced under warranty with a new handset and then traded), and now a 32gb 3GS in white.

Never marked a screen, back's have stayed 99.9% unmarked.

Never used a case, slip it in my jeans pocket all the time. I'm careful but not overcareful.

Hat's off to Apple for making a screen that is robust enough to live without a screen protector.

No offence to anybody who is careful, I've just never found the need to use a case....

Ditto, fantastic case which does it's job but doesn't make the iPhone much bigger!

Re: iPhone users - do you use a case?

I use the switcheasy stealth and I find its so much more comfortable to hold and while I do like the sleek iphone design I also like the rugged matte look of the case. I'm much happier with an easily replaceable screen protector considering my 24 month committment but 12 month warranty () and my busy pockets! I'm quite concerned that a naked iphone would be about as easy to hold as a wet bar of soap if my hands get a little cold and wet.

Currently thinking about a car charger but if my a case is non-compatible I won't buy - simple as!

Maybe, but it isn't going to help you if you drop it, is it?
Owned an iPhone for 18 months, now (3G now with the wife, and then 3GS) and dropped the original twice and this one once. All times landing on concrete or the pavement but the Otterbox protection resulted in no damage whatsoever. Both phones as new. I think a less sturdy case might have left me with a scratch or dent.

Thats the problem I think. You either opt for scratch protection and have a thin case which is convenient, adds no bulk and can be left on all the time. Or you go for proper drop protection but with added bulk and inconvenience when it comes to docks and some accessories.

Having tried both, the bulkier cases became a complete annoyance, constantly taking them on and off. I have dropped my phone with Incipio Feather and it didn't do any damage, but I guess that may have been complete luck. What about a feather and some insurance?

Re: iPhone users - do you use a case?

That Otterman case looks to be bullet proof

I suspect if the feather case was dropped from 4 foot onto concrete it would likely crack but the iphone inside would most likely survive.

This is the reason I went for a slim fitting silicone case. Unless it lands horizontally screen down onto some protruding point, the silicone should damp the impact and all should be fine, case and iphone! Plus its so grippy and easier to hold I should be much less likely to drop it in the first place.

Only trouble I have is it is so grippy it can be a fiddle to get out of my pocket.

My thoughts exactly! I love the form factor of the iPhone and dont want to loose it.

I use Invisible Shield for mine and its brilliant

ZAGG | Search Results

Very, very strong and scratch resistant. While its no shock protection I have dropped my old 3G iPhone on tarmac ( erm twice ) and yeah it did scratch the film but didn't penetrate! ( fnarr).

ONly thing is the back is not so easy to apply perfectly that Stevie Wonder could have a go.

other than that cannot recommend enough.

My standard case is LEATHER EXSPECT case with the slider to pull your phone out. Just for when it's on my pocket, As i think the phone looks better naked

Yet i also have a belken case for when i'm out drinking for easy access. It has a plasic protector that slides over the front.

i used the zagg invisible shield on the screen, but have a soft silicon case on the back, bit of a mix and match but it protects the screen and also gives some protection if i drop it...which i haven;t yet but am considering getting insurance on the phone..

I don't really like the iphone design - ugly & boring imho. To me, the rebel serpernt makes it a much prettier phone and a kids resistent one too.

Re: iPhone users - do you use a case?

I have an Ikonic Edge leather wallet and a screen protector. It offers some basic protectection when in my pocket/bag, but means it's still got that nice naked look and feel when it's out and being used.

I've also got a rebel serpent, which offers great protection, but makes the phone look like one of the Klumps.

Re: iPhone users - do you use a case?

I disapprove of cases in principle, but I do now own one - an Otterbox Defender, which I use when mountain biking (or if it's raining on my daily cycle commute). I keep it naked as much as is possible.

It's as ugly as all hell, but I consider all cases as detracting from the iPhone's looks, so my only concern was maximum protection.

If your iPhone is only ever going in your pocket, why bother with a case at all. If your reason is to protect it, don't bother with anything but the most rugged, and hang the looks.

I have both a defender and a switcheasy Rebel Serpent. Dropwise the SE is a much more sensible option as the otterbox IMHO cannot really absorb shokes as good since it's the inner hard case which hits the ground first, but for montain biking, the otterbox is probabily better as it keeps the iphone well sealed.

Re: iPhone users - do you use a case?

I use an Incipio case that I got from Amazon. It adds no weight to the phone and is very thin, whilst maintaining excellent protection. It doesn't interfere in connecting to anything, also came with two screen protectors so I have the iPhone completely protected.

It almost feels like the phone is bare, very pleased with it.

Unfortunately I went on a bit of a buying spree when I first got my 3GS and so now I'm the proud owner of 4 feathers, a SwitchEasy serpent and a crappy carbon thing from America (which I wouldn't recommend to anyone no matter how much you like CF!!). Slight overkill methinks.

a mophie juice for day to day as it adds protection and the extra battery life I need..

and a griffin reveal for the days off when I know I'll be able to charge her up/wont be using the games constantly.....

I'm far too clumsy to have the phone go around naked....
