I want a pair of headphones with mic for iPhone 3G.

Which one is good? Sennheiser? Any recommendations?

This may help: http://www.avforums.com/forums/iphon...iphone-2g.html

I still haven't gotten any.

I hated the silly split of the Sennheisers. The audio quality was fantastic, but I just don't want a set of phones with that "uneven cable length" design, it's just not for me.

So I'm still looking, although I've just moved to a 3G iPhone and I *believe* (not 100% certain) that you can use any earphones as the socket is not recessed on the 3G, so I'm thinking I may just get a pair on non mic earphones as to be honest if I do take a call via hands free I invariably take the earphones out and put the phone to my ear!

So why am I looking for a pair of earphones with a mic then!?

That probably doesn't help you, but I thought I'd share it anyway!

Re: Which iPhone headset?

I also want some new headphones (headset) and after reading through various threads on here I think I'll go for the Sennheiser MM50iP's from Play (apparently they come with a 2 year warranty). There doesn't seem to be much else to choose from. Can anyone confirm that they will perform the same as the standard headphones that come with the 3GS i.e. 1 click pause, 2 clicks next, 3 clicks back, etc.

Re: Which iPhone headset?

I've got the in ear headphones from apple, the volume button doesn't work on the 3G but everything else is okay (they're a bit pricey though).

I wouldn't say they sound amazing but they're fine if you get a good fit in your ear. You have to take one earphone out when you're on the phone though otherwise you end up a bit shouty

Re: Which iPhone headset?

Cheers guys – I did see those links on the other posts regarding headsets.

I'd rather spend a bit extra and buy it from a respected dealer i.e. from amazon themselves rather than "amazons preferred supplier".

They HMV link is good – could save me £10 but I'm quite interested in the "Skullcandy Full Metal Jacket SC-FMJIBK Earbuds" look good. I'm just a bit worried that I've never heard of that brand. £60 would be tops for me and I'm not sure if there's anything else in this price bracket which be better?

WhiteChristmas – do you mean the volume button doesn't work on the Sennheiser MM50iP's?

and do all the control function properly on the Skullcandy headset?

hi there...I bought the Skull Candy's having had the Full Metal Jackets (without mic) previously for my iPod...they are really really well made, great sound and the mic etc all seems to work pretty well. Cheapest I found them was iheadphones.co.uk...£47.99 with really fast (next day as standard) delivery. Hope this helps...

Re: Which iPhone headset?

I'm a bit confused. So the Full Metal Jackets don't have a mic? Which Skull Candy's have a mic? and if they have a mic are they capable of all the iphone standard headphone functions that I mention above? I need to be able to skip a track without touching the iphone with my greasy fingers.

Re: Which iPhone headset?

I have bought a pair. Hopefully delivered early next week. Will let you know what i think.

I have some normal seenheiser headphone which i use to listen to music on the iphone and they are brilliant i am hoping these will be the same.

£10 + P&P is a good stop-gap until sennheiser make some bluetooth version.

Re: Which iPhone headset?

Well they arrived today that was damn quick

Here are a couple of pics. They certainly look genuine and in good condition.

Main concern is the left ear piece is about 10cm from the mic (can't adjust)

The new Full Metal Jackets for iphone DO have a mic...the older Full Metal Jackets are just standard earphones (ie. no mic).

Be interested to hear how you get on with those Joker.

Ideally how the MIC performs and if the audio side is up to usual Sennheiser standards!

So by having a mic does this also mean I'll be able to pause, skip, etc as per standard iphone headset?

I had a quick play with my set I got delivered today I can only get the set to play/pause, receive/end call and voice command. I havnt read the manual yet, so they might be more functions.

For the price I am really happy.

Blimey they're good . Sound quality is great because you get these custom size "gromits" so if you've got small ears you can swap out the surround for a diddy set. They feel like a secure almost air-tight fit and cancel out nearly all of the surrounding noise (i found it a bit weird while cycling - please don't tell me mum she'll go mad!)

I had the iphone on full whack when i started the music (which you can do by single pressing the button on the mic) and it very nearly wiped my skull off me shoulders . It wasn't a gentle intro song either. The only gripe is the lack of sound control on the cable, i've got it on the MX500's and its so useful.

The jack (straight and inline, no 90 degrees to faff with) is really secure when plugged in and hopefully won't interfere with any cases because its quite narrow.

The distance from the mic to the left ear-piece is 10cm and the long right-ear cable i tend to loop behind my neck to keep it out the way. I found the mic was good, my mum complained she couldn't hear me but thats because i was wispering because:

a) i felt a bit of a wally walking along talking out loud without obviously being on the phone
b) because you can't hear anything else going on around you, it feels like your shouting when you're actually quite quiet.

I took one ear out while on the phone and spoke normally (while walking down an empty road ) and it was fine then.

They are totally genuine (from the packaging etc) and it arrived very quickly.

Re: Which iPhone headset?

Sorry if this has been mentioned - the thread is getting long!

I've just purchased a griffin SmartTalk Link here

It lets you use your existing headphones and provides a mic for calls and the push button also works with the voice control as well as play/pause/skip etc. The cable is also sort of string-y fabric - like fine rope - which is nice.

Picked mine up yesterday in KRCS for £10.

They don't control volume - but if anyone knows of something similar that does - let me know!
