Re: bluetooth headphones

I've just ordered an S9, seemed to be some very mixed reviews and for £30 on play I thought I'd give it a go. There doesn't seem to be a lot of choice when it comes to bluetooth stereo headphones, plus the S9 has phone features

Re: bluetooth headphones

i have the Jabra BT3030

its a small dog tag into which you can plug the included headphones or your own cans if you want. it also comes with a clip for your clothes if you dont like the dog tag arrangement and is splash proof the instructions say you can use them in light rain so should survive sweat on a run (they have for me so far)

Re: bluetooth headphones

Sony / Sony Ericsson do a few pairs that should work nicely. The A2DP profile is a standard so anything that supports it should work with any accessories that support it

Re: bluetooth headphones

one thing to note is that the iphone does not fully work with avcp meaning that although stop/play and volume buttons work along with answer/end call skip track does not dont know why but thats apple for you lol

Re: bluetooth headphones

yep, I'd just add, I have a moto s9, nice headphones, only problem is the only control that seems to work is volume up and down, nothing else. and the controls are situated in such a stupid position you wouldnt want to use them anyway, everytime you press a button it feels like you are trying to pierce your eardrums with the headphones.. other than they are okay.

I have just bought a Plantronics 855 a2dp headset. Works a treat with both my 3G S and my 3G. Pause button pauses.

All of the buttons work apart from the skip track buttons but that will be the same on every set of bt headphones because apple have not used the full avrcp Bluetooth profile on the iPhone

Apparently that's not entirely true. AVRCP is supported, but there is a known bug that stops the forward/back buttons working and Apple have an open support case for it.

I can't prove this is true of course as I'm not privy to that information, but that's what it states on the Apple support forums.

Fingers-crossed for a quick fix!

Re: bluetooth headphones

i hope thats all it is mate

and as much as i love my iphone and most things apple like the more conspiracy theory minded friends of mind i was thinking apple bluetooth headphones would use apple magic to skip tracks where no one else can forcing us to buy more of their product.

this not been the case i hope it is fixed soon because it has made life in the gym so easy using bt headphones i would hate to have to go back because of the lack of the skip buttons

Re: bluetooth headphones

I bought some Sony DR-BT21G a few weeks ago as they are half price and had good reviews. You can always flog the transmitter on eBay for £20 so the headphones end up costing just under £20.

Re: bluetooth headphones

It is frustrating that now the iphone has proper bluetooth there are no headphnoes out there to support it fully and you are unable to perform basic functions like skipping tracks.

I'm just after a pair of bluetooth headphone for listening to music, have no interest in making/receiving calls so dont want the bulky clip on bit you get with some headsets.

Just not sure which ones to go for!

Re: bluetooth headphones

For those of you with the Moto S9 and Jabra BT3030 - I've had both, and whilst I'd recommend them for sound quality, I can't recommend them for use down the gym.

If you happen to sweat, then both will invariably die. Both are supposed to be sweat proof, but obviously aren't (doubly bad with the way the Motos are marketed). I had 3 pairs of Moto S9s die in the same way - all controls became unresponsive, although it did continue to play.

The Jabras gave similar behaviour, but wouldn't actually switch off, and all the lights started flashing on them.

Re: bluetooth headphones

So i need to buy some new headphones and im thinking about going bluetooth......

Are there any where the skip buttons actually work?

Can you use bluetooth on flights, or would i be better going for something like the dogtag ones where i can detach the headphones and plug them in.....

Im getting really annoyed by wires catching on my jacket whilst i walk and popping the headphones out of my ears, causing me mucho pain......

The cable on my seinheisser MM50's is starting to rip too

The skip buttons rely on the device connected supports AVRCP - which it seems as though iPhone v3.0 doesn't support.

I would think that bluetooth should be okay on flights, although at least on Symbian devices, flight mode switches off all transmitters - radio, wifi and bluetooth. Could be worth checking further.

Just made a post yesterday about the gear4 bluphones, only cost £14.99 from toys r us and I'm pleased with them, as others have said, skip buttons don't work but apart from that the work fine.

What does the sound quality and volume compare to the standard iphone wired earphones that come with it?

I've had the Jabra BT3030, BT620 and Moto S9s.

All 3 easily better the standard iPod headphones (similar to the iPhone ones?).

Only problems are :
Jabra BT3030 - only slightly waterproof, and not particularly sweat proof - mine died after a week, wouldn't power off, all controls stopped working. Crying shame, as they looked and sounded very, very good.
Moto S9 - not even slightly waterproof. Went through THREE pairs, all had similar issues to the Jabras. Sound quality was absolutely stunning, at least through my N73, N95 and HTC Touch Dual. Although the EQ on the S60 phones made a huge difference.
Jabra BT620 - also good on sound quality, although you look like a right old idiot wearing them down the gym or whilst running - you look a little "princess leia" with them on

Volume on the 3030 and S9 was easily loud enough, especially with being in-the-ear style. BT620 wasn't quite as loud, I eventually gave them to a long time friend (and long time member of these forums!)

FX-SPORT sweatproof and waterproof bluetooth headphones

The bluetooth headphones here have got to be worth a look. Latest waterproof mp3 player built into bluetooth headphones
Fully waterproof [you can swim with them!] with a 4gb mp3 built in as well. Text to speech software reads your playlists to you with track change and fast forwards and rewind within a track, so it`s far better than AVRCP anyway.
I haven`t seen anything close to this on the market.

As you have resurrected this thread from nearly 2 years ago, it is probably worth an update.

I bought some Moto S10's back in Jan for the gym. They are superb! The sound quality is excellent with my iPhone. All the buttons work (volume up/down, play/pause, skip track back and forward and answer call). Sound quality on a call is really good too.

They seem very sweat-proof (I sweat a fair bit in the gym and they are soaking wet when I have finished and have never missed a beat) plus the battery life is really good.

I wouldn't say they are the most comfortable headphones in the world as they are very rigid but that means they don't move at all while working out which is what I really wanted.

I like the idea of the headphones above too but don't really swim enough to warrant them at the moment.

cheers
Mark

Great you found a set that works for you.

I saw the S10s and reviews said the music quality wasn`t good. Possibly it depends on the fit.

Looking further on the fx-sport website they have a "VR1" model with a built in personal trainer and the ability to race a virtual athlete. To be honest this is the model I would have as you already have the mp3 built in so I don`t need the bluetooth connection and I personally don`t want to take a call whilst exercising. Having said that it appears their bluetooth model links to a bluetooth GPS heartrate monitor with the functionality also of the VR1. There are no prices yet though so I may be getting into a small investment here...

Showing out of stock on Amazon, but 7DayShop has them for £20 from their own website with "Stock Plenty".

I'm going to give them a try for that money. I had been getting itchy fingers for a pair of MM450s (as i'm a bit of a Sennheiser Fanboy) but £180 ish is a bit steep even if they are good.

Headphones arrived today.

Here's the SP:

Unboxed the headphones, it includes a pouch and a USB cable to charge the battery.
It's recommended to perform 3 Full charges and discharges to optimise the battery performance. (I'll report back on early battery life)

The headphones have 5 buttons.
1x general multifunction (MF)
Vol up
Vol down
Skip forward
Skip back

Nearly all the commands are handled by the MF button.

Setup was very easy for my iPhone 4, haven't done my iPad yet. (not sure what happens when they are both in range)

I turned it on (MF for 3 secs), then switched bluetooth on in Settings. MF for 7 secs until blue and red light flash on headphones. iPhone discovers. Done. (if you are prompted for a security code it's 0000.

So when I got to the train station, I put the headphones on, turned them on and pressed the MF and BOOM, music!!

Sound quality is average/good. But for £18 I'm chuffed. If I was travelling on airplanes or very loud underground I could justify the Sennheiser or BOSE noise cancellation.

Sound is clear, not much Bass at all, certainly weighed to the mid and treble. Sting, Bryan Adams and The Feeling sound clear, Bon Jovi and my Euphoric Hard House stuff is disappointing.

Buttons are accessible and intuitive. Headstrap is well placed, I can lean my head on the seat rest and they are not in the way. Ear pads are soft but may get sweaty during prolonged use in hot weather or during exercise.

But being free of wires and able to leave me iPhone in my bag is really useful.

I will report back on battery life and performance during a run/exercise. I will also give the range a test.

Early rating would be a 7 out of 10, given the price.
