Can anyone help?
I have a wireless broadband connection that I share with 2 computers in my home and have had a problem now for a couple of years that I can't seem to solve. Although I normally have a strong signal, there can be a lot of "interference" , with the data transfer rate reducing to such a low value, that I loose the connection.
At other times, such as at switch on of the computer in the mornings, the icon in the system tray shows a connection but trying to launch say Outlook Express, shows no connection. I switch off the power to the router, then switch it on again, and a connection is made!
The wireless router (D-Link) supplier has suggested interference (causing the problem) from
1) wireless alarms(have been disconnected)
2) cordless telephones (removed it from near router)
3) devices in neighbours houses (?)
etc
What can be done? Does everyone have some sort of trouble with wireless broadband connections?

I remember a few years ago at an IT exhibition where there were so many competing hot spots that it was next to impossible to get a signal because of the interference. It might be worthwhile using your pc to scan for 2.4 ghz (54g) signals and see how many are overlapping in your house.

Personally I'm about to lower if not drop my usage or wireless and turn if off on the router. I'm then just going to use Homeplugs to access my home network. IMHO wireless can get so flaky at times it just doesn't seem worth it.

RFI could also be picked up by your house wiring, many electronic switching devices within the home cause all sort of popping and clicking through the mains. You could try using one of these to plug the PC into or the router and see if it helps. http://www.maplin.co.uk/Module.aspx?...T=UPS&doy=2m10
I use one for the PJ in the loft, many say it provides a nice clean current for there systems.
