KEF IQ1's - To Bi-Wire or not?

Ok, so I bought a pair of the lovely KEF IQ1's (in dark apple) a few months ago (sorta on impulse ) and this Friday I hope to be getting my hands on a DENON AVR-1909.

However I'm unsure as to what speaker cable will be suitible for my lowly 2.0 setup

The cables will be chased at a later date, therefore cable thickness isn't really an issue. The main problem I have is wether or not to bi-wire these beauties? - I hope to be purchasing some IQ5se's at a later date (which will replace the IQ1's at the front)

So if any of you guys can point me in the direction of some quality but not too expensive cable it would be much appreciated!

Regards
Dave

Check the powerbuy above for the VDC blue. Don't bother with bi-wiring. I wouldn't waste my money on mid priced kit, never mind budget stuff. I have tried on a few systems inc. some pretty good equipment and couldn't tell any difference. Buy some CD's instead would be my advice.

agreed biwiring pointless. however i believe you could 'bi-amp' it with the 1909. There should be an option in the settings to utilise the unused 2 channels in the 7.1 (as long as yiou are only using 5.1) to be used to drive stereo. I do this with my Onk 805 to good effect (imo).

Re: KEF IQ1's - To Bi-Wire or not?

very simply put, bi-amping means having separate amplifiers driving the high frequencies i.e. tweeters, and low frequencies i.e. woofers in your speakers. this is usually done by having two separate amps with speaker cable going from one amp to the 'high' binding posts and one to the 'low' binding posts of you speakers.
in an av amp, there are several smaller amplifiers driving each channel of the 7.1. as two of these are not used in a 5.1 setup they can be used as described above. you would simply take seperate speaker wires and connect them to your 'low' binding posts. make sure you set set this in the options within your av amp or it will sound awful and could damage your speakers. the instructions on how to do this will be in your 1909 manual.

oh forget the advantage of doing the above...the main benefit is more control over the music i.e. tighter bass, and enable you to drive it a little louder without distortion. the benefits however are subjective and there are sceptics but I personally find it helps.

Ahhh, I see how this works now, thanks for helping me out there Atchi

I wasn't aware that AV receivers had more than one amp lol, I was under the impression they held only one?

I'll be sure to try this out on Friday when I get the receiver (if RicherSounds have stock). I'll post up the results here, and/or any questions I'll undoubtedly have.

And thanks again for your help guys, its much appreciated!
