Best cabling method from pc to a Sony DAV-DZ260

I plan on buying the Sony DAV-DZ260 surround sound package, I will be connecting my xbox 360 to it and maybe even my tv.

What i also plan on doing is running the sound from my computer to it so i can play music from my computer. I take it will be using the 3.5mm headphone from the sound card but i don't know how i will connect this to the audio on the surround sound. Also will this method play the music from 2.1 speakers or 5.1 speakers?

Another question about how the xbox 360 will be connected to the surround system via hdmi cable and then a hdmi cable to the tv?

Thanks chris

Re: Best cabling method from pc to a Sony DAV-DZ260

The DZ260 has no HDMI inputs so you can't connect the Xbox360 that way. What you can do is connect via optical from xbox to the DZ260 for 5.1 sound. You will need to use the audio dongle for Xbox360 (supplied with elites or available to buy or you can butcher an existing component or vga cable).

For the pc, if you are using the 3.5mm output there is an 3.5mm input on the front of the DZ260, use that. It will be stereo only but the DZ260 can apply Dolby Prologic Processing to it to give you a surround effect, won't be true 5.1 tho.

Re: Best cabling method from pc to a Sony DAV-DZ260

I will have to look for another surround sound system if that does not allow hdmi inputs as i was planning on getting sky hd aswell.

I don't think its work creating a new topic but what is the best surround sound system for around 100 pounds for the devices i have stated in the orginal post?

Re: Best cabling method from pc to a Sony DAV-DZ260

As far as I'm aware, Sky HD boxes don't send audio (either correctly or at all, not sure which) via HDMI. So for the best quality audio from a Sky HD box, you need to use an optical (TOSLINK) cable from the optical out port to the amps optical in.

Just a heads up anyways.

Nearly there! You cant get 5.1 via HDMI on SkyHD but you can get stereo

Re: Best cabling method from pc to a Sony DAV-DZ260

Check your sound driver, there will usually be an option there to specify 'digital output'.
