Optical splitter or Optical to Co-ax converter?

Hi,

I have a Yamaha YSP-800 which has 2 co-ax and 1 optical. I just swapped my Sony S300 for a PS3 so I now have 3 optical devices - EP-10, PS3 and V+.

What would people recommend - a optical splitter or a optical to co-ax converter and any suggestions for a particular device.

Any help appreciated,

David

I'd suggest an optical switch as a splitter would go the wrong way since that gives you multiple outputs from a single input when you need to connect the output from several devices to a single input.

I'm sure someone else can recommend a specific unit for you.

Can't a splitter be used the other way round? Surely it simply routes the optical signal from one end of the splitter to the other?

Rather than split or combine I would use an optical to coax converter to be able to use the now spare coax input.

CPC do them for about £15.00

I do exactly the same with my sky optical into the Sat input (coax only) on my amp

I got an opt-coax converter from Maplin, around 10-15 I seem to remember it was. Only went for the Maplin version because there was one really close to the office I was working from that week, other than needing to find yet another plug for it its been flawless.

Some can be, but it also depends on the devices in use as they may need to remain switched off to prevent unwanted signals corrupting the one you do want.

Wasn't expecting much for £15 but I am well impressed with the sound quality through this!
