Banana Plugs??? Binding Posts???

Ok, I am new to all this av stuff so please be gentle, as i am getting less technical in my old age

I have an Onkyo 605 that i have not connected up yet, as i am waiting for some speaker cable.

On the rear of the amp, do i need Binding posts as well as banana plugs to connect the speakers?

Do i need to remove anything from the 'out of the box' plugs on the rear?

Does it make a difference regarding the quality of the Banana plugs?

I have the same amp - have just bought some £1.70 banana plugs from Sevenoaks and they are great.

You need to remove a little black plug thats inside every banana socket. Do so bt using a small screwdriver and CAREFULLY angling out the plug - should come out easily enough! Be gentle!

No. They are the same thing. A banana plug would be inserted into the end of the binding post, or if you're using bare wire, you simply insert the wire through the side and screw down.

There might be a dust cap on the end of the post which you can remove by pinching it if you're using banana plugs.

No, a banana plug is a banana plug. Just make sure they look mechanically solid enough to actually survive being plugged in / pulled out during their lifetime, and clamp down onto the cable securely.

Re: Banana Plugs??? Binding Posts???

Newbi question......Banana plugs - many seem to be unshielded ie metal casings which look great but, are plastic coated ones better...looking for budget plugs any recomendations for mail order suppliers please.

These are reasonable ones to use at the budget end.
