Question samsung LE37M87BDX Cable Recommendations

Hi just bought the above tv and i'm just after some recommendations on cableing for it

i have the following to connect up to it

ps3 via hdmi - any recommendations for a good hdmi cable to use, it would be less than 1 meter in length (i have one that my brother gave me but it was a cheap one from ebay)

xbox 360 - all i have is the componant cable at the moment

it says the following in the manual for the componant connection so it looks to me that it will display at 1080p

"Connecting Component Devices (DTV/DVD)
- Connect component video cables (optional) to component connector ", "P", "Y") on the rear of your set and the other ends to corresponding component video out connectors on the DTV or DVD.- If you wish to connect both the Set-Top Box and DTV (or DVD), you should connect the Set-Top Box
to the DTV (or DVD) and connect the DTV (or DVD) to component connector ("P", "PB", "Y") on your
set.
- The PR, PB and Y connectors on your component devices (DTV or DVD) are sometimes labeled Y,
B-Y and R-Y or Y, Cb and Cr.
- Connect RCA audio cables (optional) to "R - AUDIO - L" on the rear of your set and the other ends to corresponding audio out connectors on the DTV or DVD.
- This LCD TV displays its optimum picture resolution in 1080p mode.
- This LCD TV displays its maximum picture resolution in 1080p mode.

pc - i want to hook the pc up to it and this is what it says in the manual of the tv

"Connecting Computer
- Connect the D- Sub cable (optional) to "PC (PC IN)" on the rear of your set and the other end to the Video Card of your computer.
- Connect the stereo audio cable (optional) to "AUDIO (PC IN)" on the rear of your set and the other end to "Audio Out" of the sound card on your computer."

with regards to the pc connection am i better off connecting it with a dvi to dvi (15 pin plug) or would i be better off with dvi from pc to hdmi to tv

and for the sound to come through would i need to run a 3.5mm stereo cable from the sound card to the back of the tv

and what would the max resolution i could achieve with the pc on the tv

any help / recommendations greatly appreciated sorry if it's been asked before i have tried searching but thought this would be best place to post for help

Thanks

Cozy

Re: samsung LE37M87BDX Cable Recommendations

The HDMI cable you have should be fine so long as youre not getting sparklies/picture breakup.

You will not be able to get 1080p over component from the 360 due to licensing type issues in place which prevents 1080p being sent over component. The maximum you will be able to get is 720p/1080i.

You have the option of either VGA (not DVI) to the PC input or using a DVI-HDMI lead going into an HDMI input. Try both and see which you prefer. You should be able to get 1080p either way.

You will be able to get sound as you have already mentioned. Do you have an AV receiver?

Re: samsung LE37M87BDX Cable Recommendations

Thanks for the info Mitsi

the picture is fine on the ps3 with no sparkling or piccy breakup so will probably stick with this cable

Cheers for the info on the 360 - can 1080p be achieved using the 360 vga cable

as for the pc - sorry for my ignorance with regards to dvi and vga

but the connection on the back of the tv is the same as the one on the back of my pc 15pin female plug like you would plug a monitor into it

so is vga the same as dvi and what cable would i actually require vga male at both ends or vga to hdmi - sorry not too clued up on this

with regards to the av receiver - what actually is that - is it a surround sound system as i have a panasonic dvd player which is also an amp and has all sorts of connections on the back of it

sorry for my ignorance and cheers for your help

Re: samsung LE37M87BDX Cable Recommendations

right after looking into it a bit more i now know what vga or dvi etc is

so i think i will probably see how the 360 is on componant for time being and connect the pc up to it using a vga cable and a 3.5mm cable for the sound,

or

would a vga conn (pc end) and hdmi conn (tv end) would that carry the sound from the pc or not or would i still have to bring the sound over via 3.5mm stereo cable as i have 2 spare hdmi slots at the moment

Cheers

Cozy
