Ok ladies & gents, please be gentle on this newbie question!

I've just taken my fist steps into HD by buying a 46" Sony (V3000), Blu-ray player and also upgraded to V+/HD.

With this in mind I have started looking around at various HDMI cables and the price differences are shocking?!?

I'm not wanting to pay the earth, but at the same time I am not wanting to buy any old crap that would ruin the experience of my new equipments capabilities. I looked on amazon but can only find cables for about £10, and the Sony shop wants to sell me cables costing £60 each.

In a month or so I will also be adding some home cinema kit (which will plug into the TV and Blueray player i presume?), therefore a suggestion of the cable I will need for that would be gratefully received to.

What do I buy and in which order do I connect etc?!?

As you are using 1080p sources and display, you cant go wrong with the cable of forums member mark grant. they're highly recommended e.g http://markgrantcables.co.uk/shop/in...products_id=99

you could also try

I've yet to be convinced by expensive HDMI cables, for long runs I'd splash more cash but if your kit is all together then I don't see the need in spending too much cash.
I have 2 HDMI cables. 1 was £60 (I was given it so it wasn't my money) and the other was a tenner from fleabay and I honestly can't tell the difference between the 2. One proviso though I'm only using 720p or 1080i from my PS3 Blu Ray I don't have a 1080p display.
General consensus seems to be on this forum that the Mark Grant cables are excellent but cheapy short HDMI does the job.

Jim, I went to my local Indy (Sevenoaks) at lunchtime and that is exactly what he said as well.

He said that because my kit was going to be together on a stand I was best off buying a 1mtr £45 QED cable for my blu-ray player, and a 1mtr £30 IXOS cable for the Virgin HD box.

Thoughts on that?

jimbob my experience was much the same yours until i went 1080p, then using the cheapo cables introduced sparklies. u dont have to pay the earth,but the word 1080p should be a prerequisite when buying
