Just got the QED-ONE ps2 scart cable, and after thinki9ng it was too good to be true at 14.99.....i opened it up and plugged it all in(superb heavy quality cable) expecting pin sharp rgb........only to be dissapointed with a composite picture.

i will never for the life of me understand why firms such as QED would churn out a quality cable which is built so well.......advertise it as 99.9999999999999blah blah ofc, 24k gold plated etc etc.......when they make a ps2 scart composite only.

i mean composite signals are hardly gonna benefit all this "technology"

That is somewhat disappointing! Have you looked at consoleplus.co.uk ? They sell a range of decent quality RGB PS2 cables for not much in the way of cash. Certainly happy with mine, other than when I put a 10m SCART extension on it, but that's another story....

What is it plugged into?
LCD, CRT
16:9,4:3 screen.
If LCD or Plasma why get a Scart cable, component will give much better results.

for my retro consoles, and ps2 i use a sony 4:3 29ls30u flat screen.

also if you have only used component out on the ps2, the vast majority of its games will look way better on a decent crt tv via RGB. games like GOW2 and Gran Turismo 4 etc etc are an exception as they support true 480p.....but the vast majority (about 99%) of ps2 games only support 480i via component, and the ps2 component out isnt fantastic really compared to the xbox/gamecube(see my trader rating you'll see i recently sold a monster ps2 component video cable). therefore as far as the ps2 goes RGB via a CRT tv is deffo the way to go. arguably even rgb via a plasma/lcd.

I just found that QED cable and fancied it but after reading this I'm not so keen. Did you change the setting on the PS2 to output component RGB before you plugged it in?
