joining speaker cable

Will I notice a degrade in quality if I join my speaker cable and then wrap in electrical tape as Im moving my speakers and I was going to use my spare speaker cable to join to the old

Is it oxygen-free cable? If it is, then you'll have to remove the oxygen from the join using "Ox-Away Aerosol" and seal it with "UNIQUE UV-TAPE". http://www.glodark.com/audio/unique.htm

If you must, then strip both ends again and solder then cover with shrink wrap which you can get from Maplins. Personally I would buy new cable the correct length. As to wheteher you will notice a difference, it depends on your system.

Remove oxygen? There is no such thing as totally Oxygen free cable. Sorry I dont have the links to support this to hand but no doubt someone will. That said I agree the wire needs cleaning to remove any oxidisation ( is that what you meant?)

No. According to that page you should remove the oxygen and seal the joint in a nitrogen chamber.

But, to give a serious answer, joints should be soldered.
