Cables required

This the place i'm looking for, i hope.

Looking to connect my Samsung PS50Q7HDX to Denon 1730 dvd player , denon 1907 amp.

At the moment (not purchased denons yet) want to connect plasma to sky+ box.

I have run so far 3 rg59(mini coax) for component, audio cable, a ct 100(coax) and a hdmi cable.Do i need anything else?

Re: Cables required

Unless you're running the sky+ via the amp i.e. converting the output from RGB SCART to component using for exmample, a QED RGB SCART to component converter box, you'll need to SCART cable for sky+. I presume that these cables are going to be buried in the wall? If so, run some cat5e data cables for future use (they're cheap) and if nothing else they can be used to pull future cables through the wall. I would ensure that all your cables are all working prior to use and to that end, I would get a 1080p certified HDMI cable just to minimise any chances of handshake errors.

Re: Cables required

I would get the QED RGB SCART to component box (unless you're considering upgrading to Sky HD?) which costs £70 (check ebay or the forum classifieds for 2nd hand units which turn up from time to time) and connect the Sky + to to the box via SCART (Set to RGB) and then run the component cable either directly to the TV or via the amp if you're going to have more than one source using component. You would also require an optical connection between the Sky + and the amp.

Obviously an av receiver capable of upconversion to HDMI would be worth looking at. Some will upconvert from component and some will upconvert/upscale all sources (more expensive) which would enable you to run just one HDMI cable to the TV for everything.

Re: Cables required

Thanks for reply.

So, to save me making a big hole to get a scart in, i can purchase a QED RGB SCART to component box to do the same thing.

With this QED i should notice better quality picture than the ct 100 coax which i have currently connected?

Regarding optical, i take it thats for 5.1 digital, no need to take this to plasma as well?

All these options

Re: Cables required

If your TV has optical out, yes connect that to the amp. However terrestrial TV only broadcasts in stereo so you wouldn't get 5.1 s/sound.

To get the best pic from a sky/sky + box you must use RGB which is only available via SCART. The co-ax cable will only carry an analogue signal which will be significantly worse than RGB.
