component DIY cable?

Damn, i require yet another component cable for my setup. Just got myself a component HDAV connector which will allow my xbox to run via a component connection.. problem now is that i need another component cable. I dont have one.. as a simple temporary solution could i use a phono cable (loads lying around) with the 3 connectors and place them in the corresponding colour connector on the amp to do a component connection? hope that makes sense. If possible i'd like to try that. i know component cables can be had quite cheap but wanted to play some games on the xbox without having to disconnect something else.

Advice appreciated.

Although not technically correct you can do this though you will loose contrast and the pictures will seem a bit fuzzy. It won't harm anything so try it and if the picture is ok for you then it'll save you a bit.

Re: component DIY cable?

That should work; there might be a bit of phase error if the cables are of different lengths or characteristics but I doubt if the naked eye would discern any difference.
