SCART RGB to YUV Component video adaptor problem

Hi,

I'm trying to connect my Humax PVR9200T to my projector via the RGB scart of the PVR to the component inputs of the projector.

I bought one of these converts off ebay because it was a lot cheaper than most other adapters and the feedback the guy got for these was good.

Anyway, when I connect everything using this (SCART set to RGB out) I get a totally magenta coloured picture. No other colours apart from a magenta tinged white and a magenta tinged black.

Anyone know why this may be the case?

I've mailed the chap on ebay but no response as yet.

I'm not sure whether the particular scart lead I'm using is able to carry RGB signal. It looks fine when I connect the pvr to the TV via the scart (with RGB out setting) so I assumed it could. Maybe this is my problem but would I get a magenta picture?

Any ideas what might be wrong or is the adaptor knackered do you think.

Excuse my obvious reply, but is the converter powered up correctly? I noticed the DC IN socket, so I was expecting it to come with the adaptor?

Shouldn't the Humax not be set to output YpBpR or YUV (component) rather than RGB? I don't have one but I'm sure I read an online manual a few months back when this sort of question was asked before.

Thanks for your replies chaps. I'm pretty sure the Humax doesn't have a YpBpR or YUV setting. I will double check tonight. The adapter comes with a dc power supply. yes, it was switched on.

Re: SCART RGB to YUV Component video adaptor problem

I think I got confused, it is the Topfield that can output YpBpR via component, so your cable won't work. If the Humax can only output RGB, composite and S-Video via the SCART connection, then you definitely can't use that cable.

Thanks Dave, erm... that's why I bought the converter - to convert RGB signal to YUV. Am I missing something?

Re: SCART RGB to YUV Component video adaptor problem

Hello YolkiePolkie

As long as you have your Source set to Output RGB on SCART you have done everything correctly - now the fun bit!

For some reason (I have no idea why) its not uncommon for some RGB to YUV converters to 'flip' the Red and Blue Outputs - try keeping the Green cable where its is and swapping the Red and Blue cables around so the Red Output goes to the Blue input and the Blue Output goes to the Red Input.

Hi Joe, thanks for your post. I did try playing around with the cables but not what you suggested - i'll try that tonight.

Joe,

If the scart cable I am using was unable to carry RGB signal, what would I see?

Thanks

Re: SCART RGB to YUV Component video adaptor problem

Depending on what wires were actually connected I would guess at 1 of the following :
Monochrome picture (containing Y or luminance info only)
Colour cast picture (R,G or B input only enabled)
Nothing - no path for any video info into display.
If you have something that does produce RGB output (e.g. DVD player) and set it to that mode you can at least test RGB.
You could carry out other tests if you have other equipment that can accept YUV input as part of the elimination process.
In this household , I would have had the oscilliscope out to see what I was getting.
