The Definitive DVI splitter question.

I have read countless threads with people looking to split their DVI connection to their TV and PC simultaneously. Some people say all they need is a 7$ DVI splitter, other say they need a 300$ DVI replicator.

If you hook two monitors up to one DVI port through a basic 7$ monoprice DVI splitter, will the image clone onto both screens?

Assuming they are running at the same resolution and have the same aspect ratio.
