I have three optical inputs on my amp and all are used. I need to run another optical input through it though and dont want to keep swapping leads. Is there an 'optical splitter' of some kind that will allow two inputs into one optical input?

A splitter is something which splits a single source to feed multiple destinations. To select from multiple sources you need a switch. Something like this

The Samsung DVD can be fed via Co-ax to get 5.1, does this help, assuming your Yamaha can handle 4 5.1 inputs.

The item you've linked to, is that something that switches three inputs to one destination? From the description it seems to say it switches one input to three destinations?

I'm using coax with my Samsung. My three optical inputs on my amp are taken up with optical out from my TV, optical out from my Pace Twin PVR and optical out from my 360.

Ideally, I'd like something that 'auto-switches' or at least is remote activated.

I have a switcher, i think its 3 to 1, i got it when i brought some other kit but dont have a use for it, you could have it cheap if you want?

Again, that's a device that allows one input to go to two destinations. I'm after a device that will allow two devices to share one input on my amp. For instance...Xbox 360 optical out and PS3 optical out BOTH to go to ONE input on my amp.

An optical signal (like most signals) passes down the cable. As long as the 'channel' is open, the light will get through, so you can use that device both ways AFAIK. You have to ensure that only one source is on at a time. You do get optical splitter boxes for £30 or so and the THOR HDMI box also has digital audio, so that might be a reasonably futureproof upgrade. Plenty of folks have used those devices I posted with good results.
