Unhappy Component to scart convertor leads

Hi there,

I have a Pioneer DV606 DVD player (a few years old now but a superb picture), which has always had the 3 component phono outputs available on the rear although I used the Svideo output to drive my old 28" wide Sony TV. It is a US version that runs from a 110/240 convertor.

I have just bought a Panasonic 42" plasma display which looks very good with RGB Sky fed into it, and reasonable with a composite video from the DVD above. Obviously I would like to get the best signal possible from the DVD player, so I bought a component to scart lead (Profigold PGV373) but it doesn't work - the plasma just registers 'no signal'.

I have printed off a scart pinout and will be pin testing this evening, but wondered if anyone can tell me if there may be a mismatch with US component signals etc? The plasma accepts NTSC signals, and I have checked the setup on the DVD player that it is set to component picture (which removes the colour from the composite so I know it does something...). Is it possibly a duff lead or is there a logical reason for why it doesn't work?

Any help much appreciated,

Steve

There is a very good reason why the scart to component lead is not working - and its got nothing to do with a dud lead!
On most TVs and screens scart does not carry a component signal. AFAIK the only TVs that do have component via scart are a couple of Lowe TVs.
Scart normally carries (from bad to best) composite, S-Video & RGBs
I think your best bet for connections would be to get a component input board for your plasma or see if you can set the DVD to output RGBs via the component sockets.

Mark.
