HDMI to Component Cable

HDMI to Component Video with Stereo Audio AV Cable 1M HDMI to AV, HDMI to Component Video, Stereo Audio AV Cable - DinoDirect.com

Looking to send the HDMI signal from my Bush Freesat into my Panasonic Plasma (which has 1080i via Component only)

Is this cable suitable to pass 1080i Video? (I would use the optical digital out to pass the sound)

I'd be very surprised if this worked at all and I wouldn't be surprised if it was actually capable of damaging your TV.

The product 'reviews' all look fake, two of them from different people actually use exactly the same words.

You can't go from HDMI which is digital to component which is analogue without active electronics in the middle to handle the handshake with the HDMI device and the decoding then the conversion to analogue.

All that for £3.32 and small enough to fit into the HDMI plug would be a miracle

I suspect some devices can be configured to send component signals through the HDMI port which may then make this type of cable useful - but the sellers descriptive is in my opinion somewhat misleading and for most people these cables wont do what they expect them to.

If you look on amazon product feedback several people have been caught out with similar cables

The advert for this cable is a complete scam!

As already mentioned HDMI is a digital only connection and Component via 3 phono plugs is an analogue only connection. HDMI can IIRC tranfer digital component video signals, but never analogue component.
Then there is the dact that it is listed as 'HDMI to Component Video with Stereo Audio AV Cable 1M' and shows a picture with HDMI plug one end and just 3 (Red, Green & Blue) phono plugs the other - so where are the audio connections then? So even if the digital to analogue conversion was possible in just a cable it would only be outputting the component video or composite plus stereo audio (but the phono plugs are the wrong colours for this)

Ho Hum, I bet there are people out there that wont realise and will part with money for this item

Cheap may not be reliable. Many people have bought cheap HDMI switches and had no end of issues with them.

For a reliable HDMI>Component converter the HDfury units come highly recommended by some on here - see Here

Nope! The unit you have linked to does the conversion in the wrong direction, ie it is for a component output device to an HDMI input on the TV.

This just came out today over at Dealextreme: DealExtreme: $49.76 Gold Plated 1080P HDMI to YPbPr(5RCA) + Audio Adapter Cable (1.5M)

Seems to do just want you need and much cheaper than the HDFury (~ £32 delivered)

It's great to finally see this sort of item at a decent price point. I just hope it really works.

Brilliant only came back to post this -:

HDFURY GAMER EDITION - HDMI TO VGA CABLE : Xbox, Playstation, Wii games accessories Coventry | Audio video specialists Midlands | Jack Of All Games UK

But @ £72 it's still a bit steep

Only killer with Dealextreme is you might get hit for VAT & Custom charges

The only sure way to know is if somebody who actually uses that converter can say that it worked for them. But IMO I would be more confident with this converter than the cheap looking one linked to by gkpm.

These devices are most definitely not always plain sailing and of course they all contravene the rules as set out by HDMI.org and DCP LLC!!!

Make sure the devices you are looking at will work with an HDCP encrypted signal - some of the low cost units we've looked at only work with non copyrighted material!!!

Also watch out for image shift and image degradation.

We all have our favoured solutions - Media Factory - Vision HDMI to Component converter

Joe
