Joining in wall speaker cable???? Can I solder it??

I have speaker wire chased into the walls for my rear surrounds, we are decorating before Christmas and father Christmas is bringing me a set of dipole surrounds, the current wire possition is too low but the cable is cut too short to reach the desired position for the new surrounds, the speaker cable is copper stranded and 4mm cores, how should I join a new section onto them, solder and heat shrink or another method?

Re: Joining in wall speaker cable???? Can I solder it??

I'd go the solder and heat shrink route. In fact my current rear speaker wire is joined using this method. I moved my rack from the front right corner of the room the the front left corner. 1 cable was too long, 1 too short, cut the long one and joined to the other one with a properly soldered heat shrinked join and had no problems whatsoever.

I do plan on replacing the cable when I decorate with single lengths but thats just me being anal
