Seperate Mini Trunking and Interference

Can anyone advise, I am now at the stage running cables around my Home Cinema room but have a query regarding plastic mini trunking. I have no need to channel cables into the wall due to the layout of the room and will simply be running around and behind curtains and so it will all be out of sight except for the last small distance to the ceiling mounted projector.

Is there anything to be gained by running differing cables in different mini trunking with regards to interference. I am unsure if running all the cables in one larger trunking although easier to install, route and manage, would result in possible increased interference or would the small amount of space / protection afforded by the individual PVC make no difference.

I would be running a combination of component cables x 2, HDMI x 1 and Cat6 x 1 and an electrical supply for the projector.

Any advise would be helpful

Re: Seperate Mini Trunking and Interference

Hi there

In term of video cables being grouped together there shouldn't be any problems.

However electrical power cables do give of interference and will cause dropouts and other issue with the Cat 5 data cable especially, aswell as interference on the video cables. It is general practice to installed power cables atleast 25mm apart from the rest of the cables, the futher the better.

Ways around this is to used Sheilded electrical cable, preferably double insulated i.e foil and braided. This will stop the interference around to the other cables near by. If you do this make sure to connect the sheiled drain wire to earth in the plug. (Google " how to wire a sheilded power cable")

There may not be a issue with power and video cable in your situation as yor current video cable are sufficiently shielded from interference. It's your risk to take.

Hope that helps

Re: Seperate Mini Trunking and Interference

Many thanks for the reply, with the current situation it should be no issue to keep the electric cable well away from the other cables. I will take the simple opition and run seperate trunking.
