Hi There.

Apologies for my absence in contact everyone. We at JOYTECH are gearing up for the huge E3 show next month, and thus my time has been really stretched as of late.

Right then, a quick update.

For those with the AV Control Center 2. The Ethernet ports seem to be working fine. We have not yet had any reports of problems, nor are we anticipating any. Any problems you may have had may be because you are mistaking the outputs for inputs. This is a common problem with the Ethernet Connections. To simplify, you need to plug the lead from the OUTPUT on the AVC2 INTO your PC. Then plug your PS2 and Xbox into the Ethernet INPUTS on the AVC2. This should work fine, and I would be most interested to hear otherwise.

The AVC2 allows some simple form of RCA Phono switching. It features a set of composite inputs on the front of the machine. These are wired to the RGB SCART output for quick and easy connection of a Camcorder.

As for the Widescreen switching problems:

Continued apologies for anyone still encountering problems. After further investigation we are indeed still confident that the problem is now fixed for the majority of users. Those still encountering problems with old machines are welcome to contact me direct (As a few of you have already done), and I will endeavour to replace with a working model.

Continued apologies for those suffering at the hands of our customer service team. They are not based in house, thus can sometimes send out a mixed message.

A few of you (Such as Dave Marley) are STILL having problems with widescreen switching. I would like to stress that this problem seems to be limited to a very select few TV sets and displays. Most of you will have no problem what so ever. We have now identified the exact cause of the problem and have figured out a way of fixing it permanently. This will be achieved by making a slight internal alteration to the machine, and will be implemented to both the AV Control Center one and two as a running change. In terms of quality for picture, sound and usability, there will be no perceivable difference whatsoever. Only those currently affected by the widescreen switching issue will notice the difference, and again I stress this is a very small number of cases in the grand scheme of things.

To recap, anyone who has a problem at the moment, we will try our best to take care of. Drop me a line. In the meantime, very few of you should face a problem with either the AV Control Center one or two so I would say go, buy and be happy. If you have a problem, drop me a line!

Cheers.

I am having issues with the ethernet sockets. I had to use a crossover in my patch panel to my switch to get a link light on my 2 xboxes to begin with. After that I now get no throughput and can't ftp anything over to either xbox as it just sits there with data going through.

Nice of you to post JOYTECH BBB
Ive just got a V1 and im waiting for a projector to come before i can test the Widescreen switching problem, fingers crossed its ok. But i may just run straight from the Sky box to the projector if its a problem anyway. Everything else is fine and its a nice unit....BUT your LEDs are a little on the BRIGHT side. Maybe think about a dimmer to turn them down or off next revision

Hi All

I just took delivery of my AV control center. Having read up here about the unit I was hoping that all the issues would have been ironed out by now and that I wouldn't have any problems.

No such luck, I have an issue with interference/signal quality when switching a component input. The resulting display has light spots all over the screen. I have tried to connecting the video source (A PS2) both directly to the monitor and via another scart switch box I have here using the exact same cables and adapters (as when using the control centre) and the picture output is perfect. This rules out any of the cables and adapters as the cause of the problem and suggests an issue with the control centre.

Has anyone else experienced a problem like this?

Welcome to the forum, zathros.

Do you mean you are passing "component" signals (via Scart or S-Video Y-Splitters perhaps ?) or do you mean your components (i.e. items) outputs ?

Cheers,
Mike.

Thanks Flimber

I'm passing in a component signal (Y, Cb, Cr) via a component-scart adapter. I'm also using the same type of adapter on the control centre output and connecting it to the monitor with a component cable

If these are high bandwidth signals you might be having a problem because the AVCC isn't built for anything over about 12Mhz, IIRC. The ICs might be wondering what's hit them (!). Isn't component usually about 27MHz or something ? And HD up to 100MHz ?

Joytech bbb why did your lot change the av control centre from four optical connections to two. This is one of the main reasons people would buy this as there are loads of scart switcher boxes out there but not a lot which will have 4 optical points. As I only have one optical connection on my amp I was about to buy this (if I could find anywhere in Glasgow that sells it)but with these changes there really is no point.

If that's the case then it's not going to work with the output of my PS2 then

Thanks for the info

Hey, I'm no expert but look up the specs of each and email Joytech to see what they say.

Hi Guys.

The AV Control Center has only been designed for Composite Video, RGB SCART and S-Video, NOT Component Vidio. At no time do we state that it is compatible with a component video source, and you may well not get a picture (Or get a distorted picture) when you pass a component signal through the SCART. The AVC is NOT designed for this.

We may well bring out a component version later down the line, though this is not confirmed.

On reading the forums however, some have found an ingenious way around this, by passing a component picture through the S-Video input, thanks to a splitter lead sold at Keene Electronics. I do state however that JOYTECH do NOT endorse or recommend this, and anyone who chooses to go down this route does so at his or hers own risk!

The lack of the abillity to pass a component picture through the SCARTS is NOT a fault with the unit...

As for the question by Gerbilly, the AVC2 is not a replacement for the AVC1. it is mearly an alternative. We removed 2 of the opticals, and replaced them with Ethernet ports as a lot of gamers didn't have 4 optical sources, and wanted to connect Xbox Live and PS2 Broadband to the unit.

The reason we removed 2 optical ports is purely down to space. We couldn't fit everyuthing on without making the unit bigger!

Still, we appreciate your comment (It has been noted by a few of you), and all feedback will go back to the developers. If enough of you hate the Ethernet and want 4 opticals, we will be sure to take that into consideration on future versions down the line.

Cheers.

BBB is there retailer anywhere in Glasgow that I can buy the version 1 from then?.

I would suggest get rid of the ethernet connections as it not an option I use with my X-Box and PS2 as I believe it is with the majority of these consule owners.

It's good to see this thread still going strong.. Personally I've had the unit for over a year now and other than the widescreen issue (never worked for me) I've been pretty happy. I would like to get the widescreen issue sorted but I don't know if it's really worth waiting 4 weeks to get it fixed.

The one issue which is easily fixed is the bight LED lights. They are simply rediculous and I've resorted to sticking a piece of paper over the front to block them out; an option to turn off the lights or at the very least dim would be great.

lol.. yeah saw that months ago but too lazy to bother.. a piece of paper does the trick. If I do open the unit I'd probably disconnect the LEDs completely.

FEEDBACK FOR JOYTECH BBB:

The perfect AVC3 :

imo,

replace all Composite Video with Component signal (Y, Cb/Pb, Cr/Pr) (okay maybe keep one for the camcorder )

include at least one audio co-axial bitstream / PCM digital input

Drop the Ethernet ports (Most people don't have both consoles let alone have both running online) and replace with at least 3 x optical inputs.

As for design, on the facia front of the unit round off the top and bottom edges, get a nice high res LCD on the left hand side of the facia.

Put the LEDs top right hand side. Also give us control to Dim those LEDs! Change the colour of the 'feet' on the unit to match the case, i.e. not black feet on a silver case!

Keep the unit smooth and soild, and Joytech will be onto a real winner!

I'd happly pay £100+ for a unit of this spec.

Rikki

THink i would rather have a unit that was an inch taller that had the folloing per input

Composite + L/R Audio (Linked to the Scart)
Component Input
Full Scart
Optical & Coaxial Digital Input
Network port ( All connected to a internal HUB rather than switched)

Network ports can be useful as HTPCs are becoming more wide spread and PS2s XBOXs etc have them as well (but having them switched is a bit pointless IMO)

Networking Hubs & Switches are cheap as chips,

IMO, I really don't see why they need to be switched with the AV source and intergrated into an AV control centre.

I currently have a HTPC, Xbox and PS2. I have them connected to a 4port switch which I got new for <£10.

The reason I would integrate it is to reduce the number of boxes/PSUs I need in the hifi stack. The AV Control centre is not exactly cramped for space inside and as you say the cost of such hubs is tiny now. If you have audio cables coming from the HTPC, XBox, PS2 to the control centre then it would be easier if you could just run the network cable with them and that was it all sorted rather than having to run them to another box which then needed an seperate PSU etc.

Ideally, it should just have one of everything per identical input, inc. a HDMI/DVI connector.

Mike.

And just for good measure built in splitters to provide 2 outputs so you can run your LCD/Plasma off it for daily viewing & the projector for big screen action :D

Most would be possible although HDMI splitters are $$$$, rest are fairly cheap

I currently have an One for All Scart control center, which does exactly what I want it to, but the signal quality is crap (as is the quality of the whole box).

Can anyone tell me if you are able to use the AV Control Center in the following way.

Watch one input whilst recording to VCR from a different input. I have two boxes (1 freeview, 1 Sat) and often want to watch the british freeview whilst recording from my German sat box. My 'one for all' box allows me to do this, but the AV Control Center (1 or 2) does not mention this function in the blurb.

I fact, it does not even mention that it has a seperate VCR/DVDR output. Can you really only connect it to the TV????

If not, what Scart switching box can anyone recommend that allows 4 RGB inputs, an RGB out for the TV and a video to be connected and record from any of the inputs whilst viewing a different one?

Thanks

Neil

ps. I am also a little bit worried about this switching problem, again the one for all box works fine with my Sony 28" wide screen.

Neil,

Welcome to the forums.

What you ask is not part of the 'remit' of the AVCC but you can wangle something by using seperate S-Video/RGB routes, kind-of.

Or have a look at a Holdan HSR-1000 (can be bought from Keene Electronics)

Does probably more than you need. It's only downside is it only has one RGB output (the others are composite), however, you can route 7 inputs to 3 outputs independently.

And the build quality is very good compared to say a Quintro box.

B-Tech Quintro+ will do 4 RGB in and 2 RGB out (if you need RGB to a DVD recorder/projector) - I have one and don't have any build quality issues (?) and picture quality is good. You will need to swap some right angle SCART plugs ¬ for straight out | plugs as the connections are very close together.

This works out at just under £70 delivered
http://cpc.farnell.com/jsp/endecaSea...=AV09359&N=411

It's in one of CPC's promotional leaflets at the moment and this order codes will get it for £64.40 (£54.80+VAT) delivery is free as it's over £30ex VAT and is usually next day in my experience. www.cpc.co.uk order code AV0935910

Thanks for the quick replies.

It is a pity that the AVCC 2 does not do this, as it looks like a nice piece of kit.

It seems that all others do though. I had a look at the Quintro and Holden as well as the Vivanco, which a lot of people seem to rave about. They all do what I want, but the AVCC just looks better and has some other neat features!

I am currently just using some switch boxes bought from Maplins which seem to be very good quality (I don't notice any drop in picture or sound - unlike with the One for All). I might just stick with that until something else comes on the market. More and more people seem to be using these!
