Re: Help with cables please!!!!!!!!!!!

I have answered your other post but will repeat some of it here. As you have a PS3 and also other sources to connect, I would not recommend an all-in-one unit as they lack inputs.

What cables you need will ultimately depend on the capability of the audio system you buy. Sky HD can output DD5.1 over optical (and digi-coax on the Amstrad AFAIK). The PS3 can output standard multi-channel surround sound formats over optical (Dolby Digital 5.1 and DTS) and also the new lossless HD audio formats over HDMI.

Length will depend on where everything is sited, so we cannot comment. Obviously I would recommend you keep the lengths as short as possible.

Re: Help with cables please!!!!!!!!!!!

Hi,

You need to sort out what cables you need by,as has been intimated, the number of available connections. The most problematic will be an all in one surround system as davepuma has stated.

If I were you,I would forget the all in one.I suggest an AV receiver and a separate 5.1 speaker package.

The receiver should have at least 2 HDMI inputs and 1 output. It should have 2 Optical digital inputs and 2 Coaxial digital inputs.

Your PS3 will connect by HDMI to 1 of the inputs on the Receiver and then is passed through to the TV by the HDMI output From the receiver.

The Sky box will connect to an optical digital input on the receiver for 5.1 sound when transmitted And by HDMI to your TV for the picture element.

The TV Sound can be connected to the receiver via the other Optical output.

If all of this is on one stand then cables need'nt be longer than 1 or 1.5m and are all widely available.LINDY Tech are fine and others are available online.Try Amazon for example.

That site could also source a reasonably priced AV Receiver and speaker package. Also check out Richer Sounds (and reg,as a VIP member, its free)

Good Luck

Re: Help with cables please!!!!!!!!!!!

Doesn't have to be a Sony, unless that is you manufacturer of choice.

How much were you looking at spending? remember speaker cable as well.

A couple of HDMI cables and Optical cables should come in about £20/£25 no more and speaker cable should be £1.50/£2.50 a metre, again no more.
look at Richer sounds again.

You can do a lot worse than the Classifieds on these Forums for speakers, its where I bought mine.

Your Receiver is going to be the relatively expensive piece, hence my initial question.

These are just examples of what are available.

Good luck,
